Position Summary:

The Intellectual Property Supervisor oversees the workflow assignment for the Intellectual Property (IP) Prosecution, Transactions & Strategy support staff. This role develops and implements departmental best practices to align with filing regulations established by the U.S. Patent Trademark Office (USPTO). The Intellectual Property Supervisor relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This position also has a billable requirement.

As Intellectual Property Supervisor, you will:

  • Supervise the workflow and performance of the Intellectual Property Specialists and Intellectual Property Clerks, including providing ongoing performance feedback and participating in the annual staff performance evaluation process as well as new hire evaluations
  • Collaborate with the IP Prosecution Administrator to establish, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures, workflows, employee learning paths and training resources
  • Evaluate staff productivity, monitor overtime usage and address any overtime concerns
  • Monitor billing requirements and goals for the IP Specialists and meet regularly with them regarding their goals
  • Train new staff and provide ongoing support for current staff
  • Coordinate with other IP Specialists across the firm for work and backup purposes Ability to prepare, file and review foreign and domestic patent applications.
  • Research IP patent prosecution laws, regulations, and fees and advise attorneys and staff regarding regulation changes
  • Maintain and update docket for assigned cases

Job Specifications:

  • At least seven (7) years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Knowledge of US and Foreign IP laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of IP Docketing software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
  • Ability to learn new concepts and skills quickly

Expected Pay Range in New York $143,000 – 183,000

Expected Pay Range in Los Angeles & Orange County $131,000 – 167,000

Expected Pay Range in San Francisco & Silicon Valley $149,000 – 190,000

Base pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that MWE provides to compensate and recognize our staff professionals for their work. Full time positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
