Adult Education Instructional Aide
(GED, CTE, and ESL)
The West Kern Adult Education Network (WKAEN) Consortium is comprised of the West Kern Community
College District, (WKCCD); the Taft Union High School District; the Maricopa Unified School District; Taft City
School District (TCSD); and the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS). Together these educational institutions provide most of the education and workforce training programs in the West Kern region. The formation of the West Kern Adult Education Network (WKAEN) has allowed consortium members to leverage all their resources and has facilitated the growth of adult education. The WKAEN Consortium operates in accordance with the Adult Education Block Grant, AB104, and related mandates and regulations.
THE POSITION:
Under direction of the Instructor, Program Director or Site Coordinator, the Instructional Aide is responsible for performing tasks that support student learning and program curriculum.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
− Assist with classes whether online or in-person, monitoring tests, maintaining order and organization within the classroom setting.
− Review student assignments to monitor and measure performance.
− Assist students in accomplishing course objectives and procedures.
− Maintain familiarity with learning materials.
− Assist with registration, assessment, and the completion of course related paperwork (attendance, student tracking forms, etc.).
− Assist with receptionist duties as needed such as data input and other office tasks as assigned.
− Attend mandatory in-service, staff meetings, and AEP trainings as assigned.
− Assist with the clean-up and sanitation of classroom desks and other high-traffic/high-touch areas.
− Perform other related duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator, Program Director, and Instructor.
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
− Proficient knowledge in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Canva, Zoom, Google Suite
− Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the community served by West Kern Adult Education.
− Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
− Preferred skills but not necessary: Bilingual (Spanish/English)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
− High School Diploma or equivalent
− Knowledge of basic learning skills in order to assist GED, CTE & ESL students in subjects such as math, social studies, science and language arts.
− Must possess a valid driver’s license and have dependable transportation.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
− Part-time / at-will, up to 29 hours a week
− Hour wage range: Minimum wage - $15.00
− This is a part-time position and requires a successful completion of a 90-day probationary period. Your supervisor will monitor your progress during this period and will discuss your performance every 30 with you.
