The Casework Associate I position is in the Fayetteville Vocational Rehabilitation/Independent Living office. The purpose of the Casework Associate I position is to provide basic casework duties for the Independent Living program under the direction of a Rehabilitation Counselor Supervisor or Rehabilitation Services Manager. The program provides services to residents of Harnett, Sampson and Moore counties, however the Independent Living office also covers Lee, Cumberland, Robeson, Hoke, Bladen, and Scotland counties, so the coverage may change.
This position is responsible for casework activities, such as: explanation of the Independent Living Program’s mission and services to the public, solicitation of information needed to establish eligibility for services.

Job Responsibilities include:


  • Conduct basic assessment of medical, financial, and social needs
  • Drafting eligibility decisions and service plans and representing the agency at community events.
  • Provide direct case management services including gathering data; discussing factors related to independent living
  • Arranging and purchasing goods and services for clients
  • Coordinating assistive technology assessments and/or devices
  • Coordinating transportation modifications, home modifications, and other services including referrals to other agencies as indicated in the Individual Plan of Independent Living

  • Ability to guide clients through the application, financial, and plan development processes
  • Ability to request and analyze financial documents for financial eligibility
  • Capacity to evaluate diagnostic data to determine if it is within policy
  • Knowledge of how to work directly with community partners and vendors
  • Ability to independently manage a variety of caseload activities including case service budgets and case records documentation
  • Ability to interpret and apply medical/psychosocial data in planning, developing, and implementing rehabilitative services

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a discipline relative to the program served from an appropriately accredited institution
OR
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in an area related to program that provides experience in techniques of casework
OR
counseling; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
