Yakima Valley Community College is accepting applications for one Human Resource Consultant Assistant 1 in the Office of The President - Human Resource Services. This is a full-time classified position, beginning salary is $2,957 per month for 40 hours per week, with periodic increments up to $3,915, plus a full state benefits package.

Reporting to the Director - Human Resource Services, the HRCA1 will perform employee-oriented paraprofessional, technical, and clerical tasks in support of the college’s human resource service operations. The HRCA1 proactively provides information to clients and explains policies, rules and regulations applicable to human resource functional area(s).

The HRCA1 must represent the department and the organization in an effective, highly professional, friendly, and responsive manner.

Essential Tasks

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of office experience including at least six months of experience in a human resource or related setting
OR
Equivalent education/experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated strong customer relations skills
  • An Associate’s degree with an emphasis in human resources, business management or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism and confidentiality
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations and with deadlines
  • Strong critical thinking skills; ability to analyze data and resolve problems

  • Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in an open office setting with frequent in-person interaction and numerous interruptions, work under pressure, and handle multiple tasks is essential

Qualifications

JOB PROFILE:

  • Front line duties include responding to inquiries and providing information about human resource rules, policies, regulations or procedures within functional area(s) of human resource services such as recruitment and hiring processes, benefits eligibility criteria and program offerings, classification, compensation and/or leave rules and procedures, answering phones, opening mail
  • Schedules and arranges employment examinations and interviews; assists in maintaining electronic application software; prepares examinations
  • Maintains accurate and confidential personnel file and employment documentation
  • Provides guidance to others in applying for positions at the college
  • Assists in preparing job advertisements
  • Assists in receiving, reviewing, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of, compiles and/or maintains human resource data, documents and records such as leave and salary records
  • Enters and/or retrieves data from human resource information or other computerized recordkeeping systems
  • Receives, reviews and files information regarding the college safety program; accidents and Labor & Industries claims
  • Receives, reviews, routes and files information regarding unemployment claims
  • Assists human resource staff as a back-up in administering a variety of human resource functions
  • Prepares correspondence and spreadsheets
  • Receives requests for public records from employees or members of the public; provides or verifies public information requested
  • Assists in developing internal office procedures
  • May direct the work of others, including work study and/or hourly employees within human resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP), a supplemental retirement savings program that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.

Paid Leave and Other Incentives
