Homeowner Services Coordinator
Position Title: Homeowner Services Coordinator
Reports to: Executive Director
Purpose: The Homeowner Services Coordinator plays an integral role by creating a positive experience for potential homebuyers and homebuyers selected into the Habitat Homebuyer Program. This position will manage La Porte County Habitat for
Humanity’s Homeowner Services activities for the recruitment, processing, and selection of homebuyer families, coordinate the sale of homes, and provide direction for the programs designed to support homebuyers after they have been selected. This position will also coordinate with the Homeowner Selection/Services
Committee while working to assist and nurture homeowner candidates.
Employee Status: Non-exempt, hourly at 20 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
Recruiting Homebuyers
- Develop and maintain various recruitment processes to keep homeowner candidates in the mix so the proper number of homeowners will be in the system, working toward homeownership.
- Coordinate and implement small group and public speaking orientations to educate homeowner candidates about the Habitat for Humanity Homeownership Program.
- Evaluate and make recommendations for changes in processes where appropriate.
New Homeowner Candidates
- Develop and manage applicant outreach and awareness approach
- Develop and manage application orientations
- Understand laws pertaining to mortgage loan origination and closing by completing the Habitat Qualified Loan Officer training and certification program.
- Insure practices are consistent with policies or policy changes proposed.
- Remain aware of new laws that impact policy and incorporate into existing policies
- Manage homebuyer selection process
- Review pre-applications and send appropriate acknowledgements
- Track and screen applications before submitting to Homeowner Selection Committee for review
- Set appropriate timelines for Homeowner Selection Committee and notify homebuyers of their status in timely manner.
- Maintain homebuyer files and comply with privacy policies.
- Track homebuyer sweat equity hours and send monthly sweat equity reports.
- Perform monthly review with Homebuyers to discuss progress on required sweat equity, down payment savings and required classes.
- Keep homebuyers abreast of upcoming classes, events, and sweat equity opportunities.
- Maintain communication with Homebuyer Support Partners and keep records of specific issues on file
- Provide staff support to Homeowner Selection/Support Committee, including scheduling, coordinating and attending committee meetings.
- Work with homebuyers and committee to coordinate groundbreaking and house dedication ceremonies.
- Provide program development and training for homeowner support/self-sufficiency, including the areas of home maintenance and financial management.
Current Homeowners
- Provide referral resources as appropriate to homeowners.
- Encourage opportunities for ongoing participation of homeowners as ambassadors or mentors.
- Communicate and collaborate with other staff and leaders regarding issues homeowners raise with Habitat, including construction, design decisions, home repair, financial and sweat-equity issues
- Ensure homeowner files in the office or electronic are complete and maintained.
Required Skills / Experience
- Mortgage lending experience is beneficial
- Able to work independently
- Have good organizing skills
- Experience teaching or group facilitation.
- Experience working as a member of a team.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
- Be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions.
- Have good anticipatory abilities and personally act on same as need arises.
- Understand the big picture of the La Porte Habitat’s mission and know that Homeowner Services is only a part.
- Experience with MS Office suite of products and ability to quickly learn new tools that may be used by La Porte Habitat.
- Participate in Habitat for Humanity Affiliate training sessions and meetings.

- In compliance with Habitat for Humanity policy, candidate must pass a background check.
- This role may support working remote with flexible hours.

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
