Summary of Job Description: The Early Head Start Home Visitor is responsible for planning and organizing individualized lesson plans that are developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate for infants/toddlers in collaboration with their parent/guardian. The work includes providing comprehensive services to families as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Social Services Director and within guidelines established by federal and state agencies.

Summary of Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in social work, human development or related field and 2 years’ experience in case management and maintaining accurate and current records. Demonstrate competency to planand implement home-based learning experiences that ensure effective implementation of the home visiting curriculum and promote children's progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate, and to build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families. Good math skills analytical skills and skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, or other software applications to retrieve data, create spreadsheets, and reports. Must maintain strict confidentiality with respect to Early Head Start infant/toddlers, families, and staff. Demonstrate competency to plan and implement home-based learning experiences that ensure effective implementation of the home visiting curriculum. Ability to build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families. Demonstrated computer literacy in email and word processing applications. Ability to demonstrate creative problem-solving skills, patience, good judgment, and resourcefulness. Must be comfortable working with diverse ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds of the families and children. Must be willing to participate in trainings and professional development to advance skills and then apply them. Ability to work effectively as a member of team and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse groups. Must be empathetic to children’s emotions and parent/guardian’s needs. Must present self in a professional manner, which includes professional appearance, attire, vocabulary, and conduct. Communication Skills: Communicates effectively, appropriately, and professionally in written and verbal formats with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and vendors.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Weekly Home Visit

- Conduct weekly, at least 90-minute home visits.

- Plan and organize individualized lesson plan that is developmentally appropriate

(parent/guardian driven).

- Plan and organize with parent/guardian activities that address language & literacy

development, cognition and general knowledge, approaches towards learning,

physical development and health, social and emotional development.

- Assist parent/guardian to develop the skills to weave learning moments into the

family’s daily routine.

- Assist parent/guardian to develop strategies and activities that promote the home

as a learning environment that is safe, nurturing, and responsive and language-and

communication rich.

- Promote the parent/guardian’s role as the child’s teacher.

- Develop individualized plans based on ongoing assessments.

- Develop individualized plans that promote the family’s traditions, culture, values

and beliefs.

- Follow-up with families to discuss learning experiences provided in home between

visits, address concerns, and informs strategies to promote progress towards School

Readiness goals.

- Develop a plan that is relevant, rich in content, engaging and interesting to parent

and child.

- Develop a plan that promotesgood health and nutrition and an environment that

contributes to the prevention of illness.

- Establish and maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with the

child’s family.

- Assist parent/guardian in determining next visit and what materials are needed to

support the child’s growth.

Socializations

- Plan and coordinate Socializations that are held two times per month for all families.

- Provide opportunities for parent/guardian to participate in activities that support

skill development.

- Plan and provide opportunities that promote children’s social, emotional and

language development and progress towards School Readiness goals.

- Provide a healthy snack and give children the opportunity to assist in preparation.

- Provide information about Head Start Comprehensive Services and help

parent/guardian connect family to needed services.

- Offer structured and unstructured learning experiences for both children and the

parent/guardian that integrate their individual goals.

- Observe the children in the group environment with the parent/guardian while

helping the parents to recognize and celebrate the child’s skills, abilities, and

interests.

- Prior to socialization events determine if there may be a need to share information

about community supports or materials related to the family’s goals.

Other duties assigned.

Licenses or Certificates:

Possess current valid Drivers License, CPR and First Aid.

Special Requirements:

A Current Certified Driving Record. State and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check, National Sex Offender Public Registry Check, Physical, Tuberculin PPD Tine Test at time of employment, and annually, or by physician requirement, thereafter, and Pre-Employment, Random, Post-Accident Drug and Alcohol testing.

Physical Demands:

Work requires moderate physical effort and ability to lift pre-school children and/or up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Persons who work with children are expected to participate fully in a program for active youngsters. This includes lifting of young children, getting up and down from the floor, lively outdoor activities and moving furniture.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $49,833.00 - $74,749.00 per year
