Job Description

Grocery Stocker

Purpose: To provide excellent customer service, receive and stock product, and maintain a neat, clean, fully stocked grocery department.

Status: Full or Part-Time. Reports to Grocery Manager

Pay Level: I (Part-Time) or II (Full-Time)

Responsibilities:

Customer Service

• Assist customers in a friendly and efficient manner.
• Guide customers to product locations and provide product information.
• Answer calls for grocery immediately, taking messages when necessary.
• Accurately and completely record and file special orders.
• Report customer suggestions and comments to appropriate management.
• Keep aisles clear and retail areas safe for customers.

Department Maintenance

• Sweep and mop when necessary.
• Clean bulk area regularly and other areas as directed.
• Front and straighten shelves, including all displays, general merchandise, bulk, bread, dairy, and meat.

Receiving And Stocking

• Check in and sign for deliveries, follow receiving procedures.
• Fully stock all displays and shelves, following established merchandising procedures.
• Rotate product to prevent losses due to expiration.
• Build displays as needed.
• Keep backroom clear, organized, and free of debris.
• Break down boxes and deposit in cardboard dumpster.

Other duties as assigned

• Participate in quarterly inventory counts
• Perform other tasks as assigned by Managers
• Attend department and all staff meetings

Qualifications:

Essential

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Reliable attendance.
• Experience in retail grocery/natural foods preferred.
• English proficiency

Functional

• Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders.
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
• Ability to bend and lift loads, not to exceed 60 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 300 pounds.
• Handle environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
• Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
• Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 60 pounds
