What we need...

The General Manager will lead Farmers Grain, LLC, a unit train grain handling Joint Venture between Ceres Global/Riverland Ag and Farmer’s Cooperative Grain and Seed Association (FCGS) in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Reporting to the Board of Managers of the JV, this position will be responsible for all aspects of the business, including financial results, talent development/people management, grain merchandising, grain operations and safety. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for long-term success.

What you’d do…

  • Maximize Gross Margins and P&L for the Joint Venture.
  • Execute grain trading and merchandising activities effectively and in accordance with the business plan and risk management policies as set by the Board of Managers and in coordination with Ceres/Riverland’s commercial team.
  • Maximize grain and oilseed volumes handled at the facility while maintaining grain quality and managing costs.
  • Manage relations with JV owners, partner with the various job families, and build solid relationships with board members.
  • Prepare an annual business plan, obtain approval of the plan from the Board of Managers and execute the plan.
  • Oversee grain operating activities and safety programs in accordance with Ceres/Riverland’s guidance and expectations. Minimize risks inherent in grain handling and merchandising.
  • Ensure accurate and timely bookkeeping and accounting with monthly reporting to key stakeholders.
  • Hire, develop and coach employees. Build a results-oriented culture based on collaboration, value creation and precision.
  • Build and maintain healthy working relationships with customer accounts and the grower community. Represent the Joint Venture in the community and greater agribusiness environment.

What you’d need…

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the grain industry with broad understanding of grain marketing and grain handling.
  • Exceptional leadership qualities and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead people and build culture in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple workstreams safely and effectively.
  • High attention to detail and accountability to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Excellent general business acumen.
