Overview of Position:
DSST Public Schools seeks extraordinary professionals with a track-record of raising student achievement to join a team dedicated to providing a rigorous college preparatory program to a diverse population. Our home office team is comprised of leaders who play an integral role in ensuring student success through setting network strategy, supporting our school teams in implementing that strategy, and executing key centralized functions.
The Financial Analyst will provide critical support to the Finance and Development teams at the DSST Home Office and our network of schools. The Finance Analyst role is a truly unique opportunity where you’ll be exposed to a diverse and evolving set of responsibilities, be provided with learning opportunities from some of the smartest education minds in Colorado, and have the chance to lead high impact projects that will build and develop valuable core skills for a financial career. This position offers the opportunity to start with a growing charter school network that will expand from 16 schools and a $130 million budget currently to at least 18 schools and a $190 million budget by 2031.
Essential Functions:
Financial Reporting & Analysis (60% of Position):
- Create and maintain financial reports in Tableau and Adaptive budgeting system for budget owners in the schools and home office
- Prepare financial reports for the CFO and other leadership team members
- Analyze financial reports to identify key areas of variation
- Collaborate with accounting team to ensure correct coding of expenses
- Work with Finance Director to monitor FTE variances between accounting and budgeting systems to maintain accurate records
- Focus on continuous improvement to enhance financial reports and streamline financial reporting processes, enabling a focus on analysis and value added work
Grants (40% of Position):
- Submit Federal grant reports to Denver Public Schools quarterly
- Create & enhance reports showing current balances and spending detail on grants
- Partner with Development team to ensure accurate accounting and donor records
- Develop a process for school grant budgeting and reporting
- Assist Finance Director with budgeting restricted grants
- Approach work with a continuous improvement mindset by identifying areas to improve and streamline data collection, automate reporting and standardize reporting of grant funding both internally and with our partners.
Additional Duties:
- Project work and various other duties as assigned by Finance Director
- Contribute to finance team success by supporting full finance team (FP&A and accounting) with key tasks as identified by finance leadership
- And other duties as assigned by Finance Director
Job Requirements:
Qualifications: DSST Public Schools seeks candidates with strong character, passion for excellence and a relentless commitment to student achievement.
- Previous finance experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- You have a desire to use your business skills to make a meaningful difference in the public education students receive
- You love working with Excel and have a high proficiency
- You have experience with financial statements and reporting
- You have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships and collaborate across business functions
- You’re eager to learn the inner workings of a rapidly growing charter school network and love operating in an all-hands-on deck work environment
- You’re a self starter and have the ability to drive projects forward
- You have a strong continuous improvement mindset and are open to and give honest feedback
- You manage day to day tasks while also taking the time to understand the process behind what you’re doing and finding ways to streamline your work

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range for this position is $47,000 - $52,640 and is commensurate with up to 6 years of aligned experience

This position is active and may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching throughout the day. The employee must lift and/or move items up to 30 pounds. The employee must have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

All DSST schools operate within the Denver Public Schools (DPS) district and students are admitted through DPS’ School Choice process. Our schools focus on building a community where students and staff are valued for their unique talents.
