The Financial Aid Advisor is a full-time position located at our Tyson Family Center for Technology and Old Charlotte Highway Campus. Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Advisor provides high quality service to students and employees to achieve a high standard of excellence and innovation in student aid and support services. Serves as the point of contact for students and parents, advising them on the various financial aid programs at South Piedmont and assists students with applying for student financial aid and scholarships. In addition, the Financial Aid Advisor assist the Financial Office with accurately processing, awarding, and distributing funds to students.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Understand issues related to equity, and is able to provide compassionate support and guidance to diverse populations, including students/families from various social-economic, cultural, ethnic, and educational backgrounds
  • Assist financial aid applicants in understanding the application process for Pell Grants, College Work-Study, the state need-based scholarship program, general scholarships, and other sources of financial assistance available to students at the college, including assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), applications for state grants, and scholarship applications
  • Assist in the collection of verification data, as directed by the Director of Financial Aid
  • Provide updates and status reports to students regarding their financial aid file
  • Provide office support as needed and process departmental mailings
  • Lead workshops, information sessions, and seminars on Financial Aid as requested
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and other pertinent information
  • Advertise scholarships and availability of financial aid via Kiosk, flyers, signs and by updating SPCC web site
  • Provide excellent customer service to students and co-workers
  • Meet with the financial aid staff on a regularly scheduled basis to insure uniformity in policy and procedures
  • Work variable schedule if needed, including evenings and/or weekends
  • Participate in SPCC teams as requested
  • Assist in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of planning goals and objectives for the Financial Aid Department in conjunction with the SPCC Strategic Plan
  • Assist as needed in processing applications, determining award eligibility, and packaging and issues various FA awards, and reconciliation. This includes processing applications and corrections, document tracking, completing the verification process, and generating tracking and award notifications.
  • Stays informed of state, federal, and institution processes, policies, and practices related to Student Aid; and participates in monthly and annual trainings, meetings, and information sessions provided by Federal, State, and Professional Organizations (i.e. NASFAA).

Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems
  • Experience in office organizational techniques and practices

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • College financial aid experience
  • Experience with data management systems (Datatel, Banner, PeopleSoft, etc)
  • Evidence of a career that includes flexibility and a willingness to change; open-mindedness, fairness and the ability to see multiple perspectives; a willingness to take risks; and a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth
