Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly-ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Events and Auxiliary Manager is a key player in the management of auxiliary/ foundations operations. The Events Coordinator of Auxiliary Enterprises is an experienced event coordinator with a strong background in business functions and personnel of the College’s auxiliary organizations. Incumbent will lead, all festival and conference/events in accordance with RBC policies and strategic goals. The incumbent will concentrate all efforts to maximize the use of dormant assets and increase revenue. This position is also responsible for data management, preparing correspondence and reports, compiling data and maintaining accurate and prompt documentation of the alumni and donor database. The position is expected to comply with all college policies and procedures, and actively support the College’s mission and vision.

Job Duties
  • Oversee development and maintenance of all policies and procedures related to auxiliary services and special events and ensure compliance with all state regulations;
  • Oversee auxiliary departments to ensure high level of customer service and cost effectiveness.
  • Manage all aspects of in house and outside event to maximize facilities usage, minimize scheduling conflicts and coordinate the effort of all offices to present event/programs of regional, state and federal significance
  • Continuously explore enhancement and new opportunities for auxiliary/foundation services to meet the needs of the campus and broader community while optimizing campus utilization and revenue generation
  • Oversee the use of event management scheduling of all campus events both in house and exterior.
  • Create fulsome business models — research, plan for and implement — related to any new auxiliary services and new ventures.
  • Assist in the development and negotiation of vendor contracts and requests for services/proposals and identify and recommend ways to enhance the revenue generation capacity of the auxiliary organizations through new initiatives
  • Coordinate with the Chief Operating Officer to assure that business and financial operations for the College’s auxiliary operations are performed in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia laws and RBC policies and standards.
  • Coordinate and insure that all events run smoothly and that RBC is represented in the best possible light, and if needed representation for night and weekend events.
  • Design, schedule, procure materials and implement special programs to meet institutional goals.
  • Coordinate with the assistance of, IT, Communications, Facilities, Business Office and the President’s Office all commencement activities.
  • Participate in and have knowledge of the professional organizations relevant to conferencing and event planning, such as, the Association of Collegiate Conference & Events Director International, and develop a broad network with similar positions at other institutions.

  • Thorough knowledge of successful office practices and protocols with the ability to support such office programs.
  • Ability to work well on a team to advance larger activities and initiatives, as well as work independently on discrete, time sensitive tasks that contribute to broader organizational objectives.
  • Excellent written and communication (oral, listening, presenting and speaking) skills with a strong customer service orientation including comfort in engaging university, business, alumni, and donors exercising diplomacy and thoughtfulness in all interactions.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Power Point, Word, Excel), on-line research skills, social media, and other applications of emerging technologies.
  • Strong analytical, computational and quantitative skills with the ability to extract and analyze data, and produce reports in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with academic disciplines, diverse populations, administrative areas and the College culture.
  • Strong project management, organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to draw conclusions, develop recommendations and clearly communicate both orally and in written communications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in marketing, business or related field or equivalent combination of experience is preferred.


  • Significant experience with business processes and applications supporting higher education;

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently; excellent organizational and delegation skills; and ability to work collaboratively in a higher education environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to bring a “best practice” approach to processes and procedures and foster a responsive “student-centric” orientation within auxiliary services on campus.
