English Language Learner Teacher (.50 FTE) Job at Colchester School District
The Colchester School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of part time English Language Learner Teacher. This position is 50% of full time serving students in our 2 primary schools. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The ESL Teacher/Coordinator works collaboratively with classroom teachers, guidance staff, and specialist teachers to assist non-English speaking or limited English speaking students in developing spoken and written communication skills.QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Current Vermont Teaching license as a Teacher of English as a Second Language.2.
Prior successful teaching experience.3. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills.4. Flexibility and understanding in addressing multicultural issues, cultural norms, and a variety of languages.5. Commitment to the districts mission and Strategic Plan.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.
Assess the functional literacy levels of all new ESL or non-English speaking students, and develop appropriate instructional programs.2. Communicate with classroom teachers, guidance staff, and/or specialist teachers regarding current ESL student needs and instructional plans.3. Work with students individually or in small groups, as appropriate. 4.
Conduct activities which promote effective listening, speaking, reading, or writing skills. 5. Assist students in learning content, according to their language readiness and developmental levels.6. Provide activities and experiences to help students and their families adapt to our American culture.7.
Challenge students to master both basic and higher order thinking skills.8. Prepare quarterly progress reports on all ESL students; review these with students, parents, classroom teachers, and supervisor.9. Coordinate total district program to serve ESL student needs; access the services of the Rural Educational Center and higher ed institutions to bolster program resources.10. Perform other tasks as assigned by building principals and/or your direct supervisor.Interested candidates shall submit cover letter, resume, three written letters of recommendation as well as copies of transcripts and current Vermont Teaching license with the proper endorsement(s).
