    Overview:
    The Danbury Public Schools currently serve a diverse population of more than 12,000 students across the City. The Central Office position of Elementary Literacy Supervisor will report directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and will be part of a team that supports district level reform related to improving core outcomes, increasing the number of proficient readers, creating opportunity and closing the achievement gap.
    While this administrator will focus on the implementation and systems aligned to the delivery of a high quality literacy program, he/she will work directly with the SRBI Supervisor and his team to ensure a continuum of tiered intervention and support for elementary students. Additionally, this administrator will work in close collaboration with other content area supervisors, middle school leaders and curriculum administrators in order to ensure the effectiveness of both horizontal vertical integration of literacy programing, intervention placements, summer school identification and establish solid communication and synergy between and among the elementary and secondary levels. Further, the Elementary Literacy Supervisor will provide K-12 leadership support and coordination for the district TEAM program. To accomplish these goals, the successful applicant must work collaboratively with other Central Office Administrators, Principals and other School Leaders, Special Education Supervisors, and literacy and numeracy coaches working District wide.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Work with school leaders and instructional coaches to build capacity in the delivery of a new standards based literacy program, maximizing both human and material resources. This collaboration with District and Building Leaders may include comprehensive reform work as needed to ensure effective instructional leadership related to a Multi Tiered System of Supports Intervention programming.
    • Procure and analyze student data and provide recommendations to the building based teams for appropriate programming during regular school year, after school and summer months. Effective support will require this administrator to facilitate meetings and lead data driven reviews of student growth and achievement and strategically use human, blended and digital learning resources with the ultimate goal of administering effective intervention support and acceleration to identified students.
    • Conduct regular progress monitoring of student growth and performance, making appropriate suggestions to inform instruction, intervention and alignment of materials.
    • Provide support to school leaders in order to maximize instructional time and find innovative building-based solutions to solve challenging problems of practice.
    • Conduct instructional specialist and teaching staff observations, providing feedback on adherence to diagnostic, planning and best practice instructional delivery models.
    • Oversee the work and professional development needs of Literacy Coaches and related literacy personnel.
    • Conduct ongoing training in the Science of Reading and standards based literacy instruction for both administrative and instructional support staff.
    • Craft and maintain a database with historical student data that allows Central Office Administrators and Building Leaders to assess student growth and identify broader trends of areas needing improvement district wide, as well as at the individual building level.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of a Literacy Strategic Plan and budget that aligns with district goals and school level needs.
    • Coordinate literacy nights and parent information sessions as needed.
    • Analyze student data for the purpose of reporting to the District on the overall effectiveness of the literacy program, and provide such information to state and federal agencies when requested.
    • Provide input into the development of District and School Improvement Plans for the purpose of ensuring alignment.
    • Provide leadership and direction to teachers and mentors in the TEAM program, completing reports and submissions as required by CT SDE. Coordinate TEAM stipend and mentor matching as needed. Serve as lead on the delivery of training modules and after school support sessions.
    • Support SBA testing and reporting coordination efforts at the elementary level.
    • Attendance at State, BOE or Subcommittee meetings upon request.
    • Other related duties and special projects as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Certificates: 092 Intermediate Administration and Supervision and Reading and Language Arts Consultant (097)
    • Special Education experience preferred, but not required
    • Experience working with Multi-Language Learners
    • Successful experience as an elementary educator and/or supervisor
    • Strong working knowledge of the Science of Reading, standards based instruction and grading, literacy intervention protocols & working knowledge of Connecticut's SRBI Protocols and Guidelines.
    • Experience in conducting walk-throughs, formal and informal teacher observations and evaluations under a TEVAL framework, including Marzano or similar, preferred.
    • Two to three years of experience in student data analysis and modeling. Familiarity with DataWise or similar model preferred.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, problem solve, and resolve conflicts between leaders of differing academic priorities.
    • Knowledge and experience with the CT TEAM program for beginning educators.
    • Strong technological skills and knowledge of blended learning systems and applications.
    • Deep working knowledge of core diagnostic literacy assessments and universal assessment tools.
    • Advanced skill set in the use of digital technology, using databases, learning management systems & use of Google Classroom and GSuite Tools for teaching and learning.
    • Schoology experience is preferred.
    Terms and Conditions:
    This is a 206-day work year position, reporting directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. The salary range for this position is $131,796 - $145,831 with placement based upon demonstrated experience as an Administrator and within the discretion of the Superintendent.
