This position has the option to work a hybrid schedule (a combination of days working from home and days in the office).
Job Summary:
Teledyne FLIR is hiring an Electrical Design Engineer who is interested in avionics, communications, power & signal management, and control systems for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). Teledyne FLIR is expanding its industry leading expertise in sUAS by producing aircraft inhouse. In this position, the Electrical Engineer will address issues, complications, and challenges related to circuitry for robotic components and systems. They will work in a coordinated, inter-departmental environment with Mechanical and Firmware Engineers.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize new designs and provide innovative ways to solve problems.
- Use development kits and breadboard prototypes to create test platforms.
- Develop schematics involving microcontrollers, voltage regulators, translators, etc. using Altium Designer.
- Design printed circuit boards for high-speed digital and RF circuitry using Altium Designer.
- Work with PCB vendors to ensure an accurate manufacturing process.
- Prepare reviews and group meetings to discuss design concepts.
- Test PCBs and other electrical circuitry associated with robotics systems.
- Analyze and troubleshoot electrical issues using custom on/off the shelf test fixtures.
- Work closely with firmware, software, and mechanical engineers to create robotic products.
- Create work instructions, functional tests, and other technical documents.
- Assist in minor PCB assembly repair using solder rework techniques.
- Participate in daily standup meetings and weekly design meetings.
Job Qualifications:
- Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
- Minimum of 5 years work experience in Electrical Engineering.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with robotics desired.
- Understanding of electromechanical systems and robotic systems as a whole.
- Knowledge of proper PCB handling techniques and ESD sensitive devices.
- Must possess sound principles of electrical design within a constrained design space.
- Experience with digital integrated circuits to perform DC, analog and digital, medium power, and low power signal design practices.
- Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, RF network analyzers, RF spectrum analyzers, multimeters, etc.
- Knowledge of basic RF design principles.
- Familiarity with IPC standards.
- Knowledge of low speed and high-speed video and communication protocols and physical interfaces: USB, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, RS232, LVDS, and CSI.
- Experience in schematic design and layout in Altium (or similar software) with an emphasis on proper high current DC and mixed signal design practices.
- Basic ability to solder SMD and through-hole parts.
- Cursory knowledge of firmware debugging and interpretation using C languages (C, C++, C#).
- Team oriented, able to work productively and successfully on a small team.
