After School Program- Educational Coordinator

The ideal candidate will have experience with the Child Welfare system, lived experience is preferred. Knowledge of foster care, kinship care, adoption and educational system is critical. Experience working with children and families affected by trauma and from multi-cultural backgrounds. Able to communicate and lead youth in a therapeutic manner to promote resiliency, self-esteem, social and academic skills development.

Responsibilities:

Recruits youth thru both the Department of Children and Families and the New Haven Public Schools. Plans and leads social-emotional and academic trauma-based activities. Provide supervision and support to students and maintain communication with the students’ caregivers, and other providers. This position will be the students’ liaison to their home school, teachers, PPT’s and IEP’s, etc. Attends to crisis situations that may arise during After-School hours. Plan and lead caregivers’ support groups.

Requirements:

Bachelor is necessary, lived experience or Master’s Degree preferred (MSW/MA/LMFT)

2-5 years of experience with at risk children and families

Familiarity with assessment tools and strength-based engagement

Knowledge of trauma-centered and attachment theory and practice

Culturally competent with diverse families and ability to collaborate and convene community partners

Flexibility in scheduling and excellent organizational/time management skills

CT Driver’s License, liability insurance $50/100K and personal vehicle

Pass both the DCF background check as well as the CT Public Safety Background Check
