The E/I Apprentice will work under the direction of the E/I Supervisor.
Duties of the Job
- Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively Maintain safe operations for all employees in their area of responsibility and drive safe work practices throughout the organization.
- Assists Journeymen with repair, maintenance and installation of complex electrical/instrumentation systems and equipment.
- Assist with locating, diagnosing and repairing electrical/instrumentation malfunctions.
- Inspects and tests electrical/instrumentation equipment as required.
- Installs pneumatic, electronic, and other instrumentation equipment.
- Installs fixtures, motors and other electrical equipment.
- Disassembles malfunctioning electrical/instrumentation equipment, troubleshoots and tests mechanisms and circuitry for defects.
- Assists with operation of programmable controllers, distributive controls, and configures controllers for required troubleshooting.
- Assists with planning layouts, running conduit, wiring and tubing both new and existing installations.
- Participate in work efficiency/flexibility programs.
- Performs general housekeeping duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
On‑the‑Job Requirements
- Must successfully complete State Indentured E&I Apprenticeship Program which includes classroom instruction and on-the-job training.
- Must lift 50-70 lbs. regularly, e.g., controllers, transmitters, conduit, starters, etc.
- Must do considerable amount of bending, stooping, reaching, turning and twisting.
- Must climb and work in high places, e.g., up to 150', elevated lifts to work on bridge cranes, overhead lighting, reflectors, smoke stacks, etc.
- Must operate programmable controllers for required troubleshooting.
- Must work with radiation-type measurement devices.
- Must learn to configure and service process controls.
- Must learn to set up and operate conduit benders, tubing benders, threader, test equipment, hand tools, etc.
- Must work with voltages up to and including 13,800 volts, e.g., high voltage switch gear, etc.
- Must read blueprints, loop sheets, and schematic diagrams.
- Must be able to learn/use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS ) for work order tracking, time entry, parts procurement, etc.
- Must be able to work independently, be able to prioritize work, and be a self starter.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and work in a team environment.
- Must comply with company respirator policy.
- Must be able to drive.
- Must have a telephone and live within a reasonable commuting distance of the mill.
- Must be able to respond to call-ins, work shift work, overtime, Sundays and holidays as required.
- Must be willing to keep current with industry advancements by continuing education and further developing skills.
Qualifications
- Candidates with a degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Power Engineering, Electro-mechanical Technology or equivalent education/work experience may be given preference for consideration.
- Must be able to lift 50-70 lbs. regularly.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
- Must have flexibility, reach and body height consistent with job responsibilities.
- Must have a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
- Must be able to comply with company respirator policy.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Products and be able to keyboard/type.
