Overview:
Cobb EMC is currently recruiting for an experienced DER Corporate Analyst I to join our company. The DER Analyst will play an important role in coordinating project activities and assisting the Director of DER Strategy in the procurement and implementation of DER-related technologies. This position is responsible for the project coordination that include assisting in business case analysis, project budget and schedule, and effectively communicating with external vendors and contractors, and within the company. The DER Corporate Analyst may also assist the Power Supply department with rate design, power supply generation planning and forecasting, analyzing metering and billing data, and financial analysis on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities:

Major Areas of Responsibility

The items listed are major responsibilities of this position. Distributed Energy Resources (DER)
  • Assist the department in implementing the cooperative’s DER strategic plan for member energy services, energy efficiency, demand response, and distributed generation in meeting the cooperative’s organizational goals and supporting members in meeting their individual energy goals.
  • Assist in coordinating project activities such as RFP process, business case development, tracking project schedule and budgets, and ensuring NDAs and new vendors are set up for clearing invoices, etc.
  • Documenting and organizing all the project-related materials on the company’s SharePoint site for easy access to the pertinent users.
  • Assist in creating necessary DER or other project reports and presentations to the management.
  • Ensure all actions are consistent with Cobb EMC’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Help the Director of DER Strategy in preparing the annual budget.
  • Monitor the performance of the DER systems, including solar, energy storage, generator, microgrid, etc., and communicate with the vendor for any malfunctioning, troubleshooting, or enhancements.
  • Receive direction from the immediate supervisor for scheduling and dispatching DER resources.
  • Assist the PMO in updating the status of all projects in Smartsheet.
Analyze
  • Data Mining expert to analyze large datasets using predictive analytics, data mining and statistical analysis.
  • Generate data modeling/analysis, scenario, sensitivity analysis, and Key Ratio Trend Analysis to support decision making
  • Develop analytical reports for Energy Network impacts
  • Assess business plan feasibility by analyzing the business model, financial performance, and relative competitive positions
  • Support development and ongoing quantitative rate analysis
  • Identify, analyze and interpret trends in members’ hourly usage and billing.
  • Validate monthly Power Supply invoices and identify major impacts to financial conditions.
  • Review plant characteristics to ensure economic dispatch is being optimized. Perform energy analysis on assets within the portfolio to find trends and anomalies in energy consumption.
  • Aggregate monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial results in a timely manner and evaluate the variance drivers when comparing to forecast, budget and prior periods.
  • Knowledgeable of the southeastern energy wholesale power and natural gas markets, market trends and familiarity with regulations and interchange contracts.
  • Provide insight into sales and marketing initiatives and performance versus goals.
Synthesize
  • Interpret results from projects and translate these findings into clear and compelling recommendations and solutions
  • Assist in providing organizational performance reports
  • Develop short- and long-term financial forecasts
  • Identify future energy and capacity needs requirements.
  • Create and update key documentation for all Power Supply and DER procedures, processes and policies for management and training assistance.
  • Work with external partners to provide support, clarify requirements, escalate roadblocks, and facilitate communication for short and long-term budgeting, monthly billing, and resource scheduling.

Measure
  • Provide presentation to directors, executives and Board of Directors, as needed.
  • Assist in the development of an institutional dashboard to inform and guide the advancement of the organization’s mission
  • Develop and maintain databases and capabilities that inform the ongoing strategy of the organization.
Monitor
  • Monitor the success of the organization’s initiatives and recommend modifications as necessary
  • Perform ongoing assessments to ensure new policies are effective
  • Provide daily updates on system loads, gas prices, unit resources, weather conditions, and additional information that impacts company performance.
  • Participate in the development and execution of strategic goals for the Power Supply department.
Develop
  • Short term and long-term power cost financial budgets consisting of variable, fixed and DER cost components.
  • Monitor FERC, Regional and Local regulatory impacts.
  • Create rate models to support innovate rate designs
  • Run rate optimization models
  • Develop business intelligence reports to support the integrated NISC systems (Financials, Human Resources, etc.) to help support the various business units
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:


REQUIRED
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, or Statistics.

Minimum two years working experience in utility project management, data mining or equivalent experience.

Experience coordinating events and meetings with external stakeholders and internal employees.

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, such as the ability to handle, interpret and translate studies of numbers and data.
Ability to interpret data and relate it to the company or process goals.

PREFERRED:
Experience in project management on DER-related technologies in electric utility.
Certificate in Project Management Professional is preferred.
