Director of Facilities
Woodward Academy is seeking a Director of Facilities to oversee the physical plant and supporting operations for the school. This position reports to the Vice President for Operations and leads a team of over eighty employees, including two Assistant Directors, and is responsible for providing exemplary service to a community of over 2,500 students and 650 faculty and staff. Responsibilities include stewardship and oversight of budget and personnel who provide maintenance, cleaning, repair, landscaping, and capital improvements necessary to maintain two campuses of 128 acres with 950,000 square feet of building space, and local investment and rental properties owned by the school. The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of facilities management and superior interpersonal skills.
Specific Duties Include:
- Responsible for the daily management of the facilities department, including maintenance, trades, housekeeping and landscaping.
- Advise, discuss and inform administration, faculty and staff on physical plant matters.
- Responsible for administering the annual facilities department budget.
- Responsible for the management and supervision of construction and renovation projects as assigned.
- Maintains liaison with architects, engineers and contractors/ subcontractors engaged in plant maintenance, renovation, or other projects.
- Oversight for the leasing, and maintaining of, rental and investment properties.
- Responsible for fleet management, including vehicle maintenance and insurance records.
- Responsible for support of school sponsored events, as well as responding to the physical plant needs of all divisions/departments on campus on a proactive and reactive basis.
- Oversight for establishing and maintaining inventory systems for facilities equipment and supplies.
- Responsible for the review of vendor invoices for agreement to contracted terms and subsequent communication with accounting department.
- Responsible for compliance with safety regulations, emergency procedures and facilities crisis management plan.
- Responsible for development and maintenance of employee professional development programs.
- Any additional duties as directed by the Vice President for Operations.
Required Skills:
- Proven management skills, including but not limited to areas of personnel, time, facility and property management.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Strong computer skills, including solid experience with Microsoft office, email and web, and facilities management software.
- Service oriented problem-solver who is able to successfully work with diverse individuals in an educational environment.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- 5+ years of supervisory experience
- Maintenance, trades and custodial experience
- Post secondary education and/or training preferred, but not required
The Director of Facilities position is an exempt, salaried, twelve month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
