Director of Community Security Job at Akron Jewish Community Service
The Jewish Community Board of Akron (JCBA) is establishing a part-time, non-exempt Director of Community Security to provide professional leadership and oversee security for the Akron and Canton Jewish Campuses and Communities ensuring deterrence, detection, and responses to community threats. The position is expected to be between 20-25 hours per week; however available 24/7/365.
The Akron and Canton Jewish Communities include the Schultz Campus for Jewish Life, Akron Synagogue and Temple Israel; the Canton Jewish Community and Kent State University Hillel Jewish student events held at the University of Akron. The Security Director will report to the Executive Director of the JCBA, and the CEO of the Canton Jewish Federation. He or she will also coordinate with leadership from the synagogues and agencies, and a lay security committee.
Requirements:Training
- initiate and maintain best-practice security training protocols for employees, lay leadership and volunteers for all the identified institutions.
- establish procedures for and manage the hiring, training and supervision of all security personnel serving with any of the agencies or congregations, regardless of how often and the number of hours they work.
- monitor and participate in appropriate security training to update his or her skills and knowledge.
Threat Assessment
- monitor local and regional threats through close communication with the FBI, local law enforcement, and other security networks, implementing with staff additional or different security measures as appropriate; must be prepared to act 24/7 based on circumstances/consultations, including in worse case scenarios.
Emergency Response Plans
- be responsible for developing and maintaining emergency response and communication plans on an annual basis, making sure they are up-to-date and reflect current personnel and operations.
Facility Assessment
- undertake and review facility assessments for the respective agencies and organizations on an annual basis and as appropriate.
- lead the vetting and evaluation of vendors for security improvements and products, collaborating with the appropriate staff and/or lay leaders.
Liaison
- develop relationships with leaders from key police departments – Akron, Canton, Copley, etc.
- maintain regular contact with federal, state, regional and local public safety.
- maintain regular contact with Cleveland Federation security.
- review and manage intelligence and materials provided by the Secure Community Network (SCN) and the Ohio Regional Intelligence Center (ORIC) and participate in related programs and activities as appropriate.
- advise local law enforcement officials to known threats and/or changes in local security environment.
- maintain relationships and update as appropriate key contacts at Akron and Canton Jewish community organizations and agencies.
- coordinate and consult with JCBA leadership to identify, discuss, and determine “best practices” for community safety and security.
- work with IT personnel and law enforcement to address any identified cyber threats or issues.
- work with appropriate agency staff to develop an annual security budget.
- assist with identification, preparation, and implementation of security grants including any reporting requirements.
Skills, Education and Experience:
- Experience in local, regional, state, or national law enforcement, military, non-profit and/or corporate settings is required, with a minimum of 15-20 years in the field preferred, including time in positions of supervision, management, and leadership
- Has a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, emergency management, homeland security or a related discipline
- Knowledge of and relationships with local law enforcement agencies and personnel is preferred.
- Experience writing security preparedness policies important; experience writing and managing security grants would also be beneficial.
- Must be willing and able to pass a high-level background check and psychological testing.
- Working and up-to-date knowledge of physical security systems; understanding and awareness in cyber security would also be beneficial.
- Ability to maintain a calm and positive attitude under pressure situations; strong communicator, relationship builder and team player.
- Ability to legally carry a firearm and pass the annual Ohio Police Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) proficiency test.
- Willingness to learn and respect Jewish community culture, customs, and practices.
