The Arc of Union County, Inc. is a non-profit, 501c (3) organization headquartered in Springfield, NJ, dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc serves more than 1,000 adults and children each month from the 21 towns in Union County, as well as the greater Northern and Central NJ counties.

The Arc of Union County seeks an entrepreneurial fundraising professional to join our agency as our Development Director. The director will spearhead fundraising initiatives so that we can continue to meetthe unique needs of our diverse client population through an extraordinary portfolio of grant procurement, communications and fundraising enrichment activities.​ This position reports directly to the Associate Executive Director, Operations. The Director of Development will manage all aspects of the agency’s annual fund raising in support of meeting the agency’s strategic and operational goals. Responsibilities will include developing, implementing, and evaluating fund development strategies that will meaningfully engage and motivate donors to meet annual fund development goals.

OVERVIEW

· Build a robust revenue stream from current and prospective individual, corporate, and foundation donors to grow our revenue, which has tripled in the past two years, to $2M annually in the next 2 years through a creative, multi-strategy framework

· ​Drive the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship process to create successful campaigns focusing on major donors, recurring donors, peer-to-peer fundraisers and similar resources

· ​Lead donor relations by crafting compelling communication pieces that convey our story with a clear call to action, fostering relationships that effectively convey our mission and value with emphasis on affinity, capacity, and connection

· ​Create and manage fundraising budgets

· ​Develop and leverage a CRM database of donors to manage proposals, outcomes and map relationships that identify promising stakeholder connections and networks

· ​Collaborate cross-functionally across our organization to develop narrative content for reports, meetings, and annual budget planning

· ​Partner with our leadership team and contribute as an administrative & strategic thought partner for annual fundraiser events

· Contribute to management of the grant proposal process, including researching and identifying funding opportunities, writing, and submitting compelling grant proposals that result in positive award decisions with successful implementation

· Build and maintain a pipeline of prospects with important dates and deadlines; research current and potential funders including foundation and government funding databases, grant opportunities, and archive all grants and reports submitted and received

· Initiate and nurture collaboration with organizational leadership and colleagues to understand and regularly assess funding needs, gaps, and opportunities

· Management of two staff that consist of a Development Manager whose primary focus is Foundation, Corporate Community Partnerships and a Communications Manager who has revenue-generating focus though use of digital, social and print media communications and appeals.

DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Has industry experience in the capacity of Director, 5+ years

· Plan, Manage, Implement and Evaluate All Aspects of the agency’s Annual Fund-raising project(s)

· Working with the Assistant Executive Director of Finance, the Development Director will work to set annual goals for all aspects of the agency’s Annual Fund Campaign, including the Annual Giving Campaign, Development Events, and Private Grants

· Develop and implement a comprehensive, written, Annual Fund development plan

· Direct Annual Fund cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities

· Produce reports evaluating Annual Fund strategies and progress on a regular basis

· Project and manage Annual Fund expenses

· Support Business Resource Development as needed in order to maximize overall fundraising revenue

· Manage the agency’s Annual Giving, (AG) Campaign

· Direct and manage all aspects of a comprehensive and strategic Annual Giving Campaign, including direct mail and online giving solicitations

· Increase donor gifts, and acquire new donors

· Develop a pipeline of prospects for the agency by identifying prospects for the next level of giving

· Direct all (AG) campaign donor acknowledgement: including written, phone, and in-person stewardship

· Establish and direct an Annual Giving club with an annual event to actively recognize and engage donors at the $1,000 level and above for Resource Development Events

· Direct an events Committee of volunteers and internal employees to maximize impact and fundraising through development events

· Plan, implement, and direct development events to meet fundraising, donor acquisition, cultivation, stewardship, and community engagement goals as determined in coordination with agency leadership

· Create and produce event-related materials and promote said events

· Plan and direct all event-related acknowledgements and stewardship

· Identify new prospective donors through their event participation

· Research new prospective private foundation donors to identify organizations with giving criteria that match the agency’s mission and in order to acquire additional grant revenue for the organization

· Manage private grant application processes, updates, and grant reporting

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A master’s degree in business, marketing or similar field of study is preferred; candidates with a record of success in a directly relevant role with strong emphasis on front-line fundraising will be considered. Experience with the IDD/Community and or prior work with a Fee For Service based Not For Profit is a plus (+).
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in fundraising and building rewarding relationships with board members, donors, stakeholders, and colleagues
  • At least 3 years of success creating and managing budgets and using a CRM donor database to organize donor data, identify donor trends, and make constructive recommendations ​
  • Experience in grant writing and managing the grant proposal process from start to finish is preferred but not required​
  • Committed to supporting and serving the interests of the agency, board, stakeholders and our IDD community and families through business activity focused specifically on entrepreneurship and business development​
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to effectively present information in a group setting and collaborate with a broad base of stakeholders and constituents including organizational leaders, colleagues, community partners, individual and institutional donors​
  • Solid strategic thinking, communication, project management and creative problem-solving skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail ​
  • Eager to thrive as a leader both in a team environment and independently with agility and flexibility under minimal supervision in a fast-paced, startup environment with a positive disposition and focus on continuous improvement
  • Previous experience with staff management 5+ years

The successful candidate works successfully both independently and in a team environment and is responsible for the quality and technical accuracy of work produced for the Development Division.

This unique position has responsibilities that involve a variety of interrelated tasks. Procedures vary based upon management requirements. Strong analytical and communication skills will be essential with the ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.

Incumbent should demonstrate productive, results driven work ethic to avoid delays in budgeting, planning and to prevent untimely business disruptions. Ability to develop important relationships both internal to the agency and external within the community is paramount to the success of this position.

Individual has frequent contact with other affiliate staff, key supporters, clients, stakeholders, vendors, external private/public entities, and government agencies.

Incumbent will participate in all assigned agency training for personal and professional development.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $105,000.00 per year
