A Cryogenic System Technician position just opened in Pasadena, CA at the JPL/NASA facility. In this role, you will be responsible for daily visual and mechanical inspection, tank level an pressure checks, and assisting with new tank commissioning. Requires a High School Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience and be a US Citizen.

Pay Rate: $65.00+/hr. (DOE)
Duration: 18 months or longer
Work schedule: 1st shift, 9/80

Job Description:
- Subject matter expert at diagnosing/resolving mechanical problems of cryogenic systems and containers (such as removing ice plugs, detecting leaks, fixing and/or replacing relief valves on cryogenic vessels)
- Partners with facilities on new Liquid Nitrogen tank projects - applies advanced knowledge of electronic and mechanical skills, comprehends how to review schematics, and serves as a technical liaison.
- Coordinates routine preventative maintenance, certifications, and drawing/Standard-Operating-Procedure sign-offs with representatives from the Pressure Vessel Systems Group on the cryogenics filling station, high-pressure dewars, cylinders, and vacuum pumps (which includes: changing fluids, purging, pre-cooling, and cleaning various cryogenics systems)
- Partners with external suppliers and external technicians to address supply interruptions and other opportunities to improve daily Cryo operations.
- Uses multiple software systems to generate invoices, generate receipts, sign drawings, edit SOPs, and track/schedule inventory deliveries.
Required Skills:
- Requires a High School Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with high pressure (1,000psi+) gaseous/liquid systems.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics and Blueprints
- Experience in process piping installation, especially in stainless steel, CPVC, and cryogenic applications.
- Knowledge of hazardous systems - such as cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, and pyrophoric.
- Knowledge of pressure vessel system safety protocol and proper handling.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. or more.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in power and gas, military, aerospace, or other high-reliability operating environments.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience (working with machines and general tooling).
- General knowledge of pressure fitting types (Compression, JIC, NPT, and MP/HP)
- Demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem-solving play a critical role.
- Use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, torque wrenches, gauges).
