The Stowe Conservancy represents nearly 400 acres of conserved land in Belmont, NC along the banks of Lake Wylie. It encompasses The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, which includes over 14 acres of outdoor display beds, including formal gardens, perennial gardens, and annual display beds. Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden is a nationally distinguished public garden known for its vibrant and eclectic collection of plants and elegant seasonal displays. The Creative Director is responsible for creating and leading the organizational marketing efforts for the Garden. Overseeing marketing, communications, and social media strategy, the Creative Director will ensure prominent visibility, consistent branding, as well as developing and maintaining a pleasing aesthetic of the physical public spaces. An ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, superb attention to detail, strong ability to multi-task and prioritize projects, and represent the organization in the highest form.

Responsibilities:
  • Understands the importance of the complete guest experience and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience every step of the way from first exposure with our brand to their on-property experience and continuing after their visit.
  • Creates and maintains a strategic framework that accounts for business objectives and user needs to plan and generate content for the Garden to Include social media, email, website, blog, advertisements, and print communications, keeping brand voice, business goals and audience in the forefront.
  • Creates and maintains a monthly communication calendar, detailing and updating plans and projects.
  • Develops, measures, and reports various marketing metrics on a regular basis (ex. social media performance and engagement, email opens, click-throughs and conversions, website analytics) and use data-based insights to drive strategic content optimizations.
  • Creates and maintains original static and video content in accordance with best practices, taking into consideration the Gardens audience preferences, formats, and styles.
  • Generates, edits, publishes, and shares engaging social media content regularly. The Garden currently maintains two Instagram accounts (DSBG and Orchid Conservatory) as well as a Facebook page for the Garden.
  • Creates and maintains long- and short-form web content as needed in partnership with appropriate staff and outside contractors.
  • Creates and maintains email content focused on the Garden and its events, promoting special vendors, exhibits, and Garden spaces through the website and other appropriate channels.
  • Actively collaborates with the Director of Development on donor/member email communications.
  • Develops, manages, and tracks departmental budget, evaluating and projecting expenses to ensure maximum cost effectiveness.
  • Manages and utilizes paid advertising to include, but not limited to, social media paid advertising, Google advertising, digital billboard advertising, print and direct mail, etc., while adhering to departmental budget.
  • Oversees and guides the physical branding and aesthetic of the Garden and its physical public spaces, in cooperation with the Director of Visitor Experience, Executive Director, and other staff as appropriate.
  • Provides oversight of the coordination and booking of arts and music programming for the Garden.
  • Actively supports organizational events.
  • Serves as a member of the senior leadership team and acts as a positive leader for the organization.
  • Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
  • Performs any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.
Requirements:
  • Skilled ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Highly organized (calendar management, digital asset management)
  • Excellent written, verbal, social listening, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in email layout and copywriting best practices
  • Experience in multichannel social media content best practices
  • Intermediate level or higher graphic design skills and higher video editing skills
  • Experience working in a web development software program
  • Social media management experience (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, preferred)
  • Frequent local travel required
  • Must exhibit a professional demeanor with adherence to the mission and core values of the Garden
  • Appropriate attire based on the business and duties
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.

Experience & Education

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in related field of study preferred.
  • Previous working experience in hands-on non-profit marketing

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and Catawba Riverkeeper are entering into a Shared Leadership model in which several staff members of each organization will support specific programs or initiatives of the other. This position will also be responsible for the art and music initiatives of Catawba Riverkeeper, which include booking musicians for the Riverkeeper retail spaces, coordinating the Confluence Artist in Residence Program, and interfacing with artists and musicians as appropriate for events and festivals as well as for programming at Confluence.
