BASIC FUNCTION
The Community Assistant II promotes understanding and cooperation between target community components and a school or project.
There are currently two part-time (16 hours per week) opportunities open to all interested candidates.
POSITION SPECIFICS:
- This position works for the Mental Health Resources Department (PEI Program).
- The PEI Program is located at Garfield Elementary School (4487 Oregon St, San Diego, CA 92116).
- Scheduled for 11 months per year

Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. Assist in developing and defining the role of parent/community cooperation and participation in achieving the educational goals of a school or project. E- Coordinate the work of volunteers and leads the work of other paraprofessional staff. E
- Establish and maintain contact with civic and other community groups, parents, and employers to encourage understanding, cooperation, participation, and support. E
- Make home calls, business calls, and attend meetings. E
- Arrange and coordinate on-site activities such as open houses, exhibits, coffees, luncheons, and parent/staff conferences. E
- Assist in the development, preparation, and assembly of instructional materials or informational bulletins. E
- Operate audiovisual equipment. E
- Prepare bulletin board displays and arrange exhibits. E
- Assist in pupil/parent orientation. E
- May act as an interpreter or translator in situations that require bilingual skills.
- May participate in individual or small group tutorial activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to three years of full-time equivalent paid service in community activities or one year of satisfactory service as a Community Assistant I.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid California driver’s license and availability of private transportation (mileage expense allowance provided).

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
Only those candidates whose application demonstrates a combined education and experience which meets the minimum requirements for this position will be considered qualified and advanced in the examination process.
All positions require qualified candidates to pass the examination process which may include one or more of the following components:
- An application screening and evaluation based on the candidate's education, work history, and responses to the supplemental questions. Please note that not all qualified applicants will advance to subsequent phases of the examination process.
- A multiple-choice exam specific to the position.
- Exams will be conducted remotely utilizing an online testing platform. Access to the internet and the use of a camera-ready desktop/laptop with a microphone are required to participate in these processes.
