Communications and Marketing Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA - New Life Center Job at Arizona Food Bank Network
Position Description
Join a dynamic Community Development team at Arizona’s largest domestic violence shelter! Your work will make a lasting impact on the agency and ultimately survivors of domestic and sexual violence. New Life Center (NLC) was founded in 1991 and is now our state’s largest domestic violence shelter providing 17,950 safe bed nights and 27,849 meals in 2021. The agency is operated in the City of Goodyear, which is approximately 20 miles west of Phoenix. Led by a compassionate team consisting of some of the most qualified professionals within the field of domestic violence, NLC is doing critical work for an issue that affects 1 in 4 people in the United States. NLC offers multiple domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking services including an emergency shelter, a healing center for survivors of sexual assault and a social enterprise resale store. With approximately 35 staff members, the agency has fully implemented a trauma-informed model at every level of its operations. All staff and volunteers are trained in recognizing, respecting and appropriately responding to the presence of trauma in a participant's life. Trauma-informed care is based on the notion that an individual is more likely than not to have experienced a history of trauma as opposed to one-off events. Utilizing the model allows us to recognize the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role trauma may play in an individual's life. As a progressive leader in this work, NLC is one of the regional leaders in sexual assault investigation training – helping officers and detectives learn and implement trauma-informed tactics. Also, recognizing that pets play an important role in healing, NLC is proud to be one of only 3% of domestic violence shelters in the country to welcome survivor’s pets.
