Role:
All ACCU employees are expected to assist the Credit Union in meeting strategic objectives and participate in the growth and success of the organization. The role of the Loan Officer us to provide outstanding service to existing and prospective Business Members by providing a variety of duties associated with developing new business, structuring, analyzing, underwriting, closing of all types of complex commercial and participation loans, as well as monitoring and maintaining a loan portfolio.
Summary of Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the credit unions business development activities, represent the credit union in industry and professional associations, community organizations, local business groups, etc.
  • Meet with existing and interview prospective business members and borrowers to promote the credit unions Business Lending Products and solicit new business.
  • Analyze and interpret applicant’s financial credit information and collateral to determine feasibility of loan approval to include applicant’s for other department staff/officers
  • Underwrite credit request and prepare credit memorandum while taking into consideration applicable policies, procedures, guidelines and analyzed risks to present a processed credit memorandum to appropriate approving authority within the credit union as required
  • Responsible for preparation of simple to complex commercial loan documents necessary to document a loan and perfect collateral securing the loan request, coordinate, and facilitate loan closings.
  • Conduct annual reviews on lending relationships while analyzing and documenting risks, strengths and weaknesses, performing complete financial assessments, and preparation of credit memorandum when necessary for approval
  • Monitor loan portfolio to ensure proper management of risk ratings, compliance with loan covenants and early identification of potential problems
  • Work with the Director of Business Lending to develop and execute the participation loan strategy
  • Originate, analyze, underwrite and coordinate the closing of participation loans ensuring compliance with ACCU, Federal and State regulatory requirements
  • Monitor participation sold/bought portfolio to ensure proper management of risk ratings, compliance with loan covenants, loan performance, loan reviews and early identification of potential problems
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of market conditions, business industry and NCUA regulation pertaining to Member Business Loans (MBL)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience: 5 to 8 years of similar or related experience as a Commercial Lender at a financial institution, preferably experience in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. That experience would include selling both loan and deposit products. Must be knowledgeable in all areas of commercial lending including; sales, underwriting and portfolio management.
Education: Equivalent to a college degree in a relevant field.
Other Skills: Word, LaserPro and Cash Insight [or similar financial analysis software] knowledge. Must possess excellent communication skills. Understand and be knowledgeable in the basics of all banking products and services.
