Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology (SHSST) is seeking a Library Circulation Assistant to work in its Leo Dehon Library. The objective of this position is to ensure that circulation services and interlibrary borrowing and lending are completed in an accurate, prompt, and efficient manner. The Leo Dehon Library serves the intellectual, pastoral, and personal needs of the students and faculty in Priestly Formation, Master of Arts and other programs at SHSST.

Preference will be given to candidates with one or all of the following: an associate’s degree, experience working in an academic setting, experience with OCLC and Integrated Library Systems and/or are familiar with Catholicism or religious terminology. The person must be able to commit to a 20-hour per week schedule that starts at 8 AM or 8:30 AM four or five days per week with a start date of June 15, 2023.

Responisbilities

CIRCULATION

  • Check library materials in and out (book drop, bin materials), shelve books
  • Create new patron records
  • Implement holds and online requests
  • Place and delete holds for patrons
  • Print paging slips, retrieve requested books
  • Research and communicate with patrons regarding lost materials and overdue books

INTERLIBRARY LOAN (ILL) & LENDING

  • Manage SWITCH delivery bins
  • Monitor, fill and prepare OCLC WorldShare ILL requests and returns
  • Prepare requests for South Central Library System bins (in-state) & mailing (out-of-state)
  • Scan materials for ILL or patron use

COLLECTION MAINTENANCE

  • Book processing: barcodes, labels, plastic jackets, stamping
  • Class reserve shelves: set up in Alma, manage shelves
  • Collection management (e.g., deselection, inventory, shelf-reading, shifting)
  • New Books Shelf: change status, shelve & remove new books
  • Serials: shelving, archiving
  • GENERAL OFFICE SUPPORT
  • Assist patrons as needed with circulation and/or use of library equipment
  • Sort the daily mail
  • Replace paper and toner in printers
  • In-house repair of materials
  • General office duties as assigned
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds as needed
  • Must be able to climb stairs, bend, stoop, lift

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
