The Clerk and Recorder's Office has an opening for a Motor Vehicle Specialist, Motor Vehicle Specialist II or a Motor Vehicle Specialist III.

  • Centennial Branch Office (6954 S Lima St, Centennial, CO 80112).

Motor Vehicle Specialist:
  • The Motor Vehicle Specialist is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude and being an effective team player while performing a variety of duties associated with Arapahoe County's Motor Vehicle division. This is an entry level position and is the first step to a three-step career progression within the division.
  • With NO prior experience performing Motor Vehicle functions or working in a Motor Vehicle office, our anticipated starting rate is: $18.00/hour
Motor Vehicle Specialist II:
  • The Motor Vehicle Specialist II is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude and being an effective team player while performing a variety of duties associated with Arapahoe County's Motor Vehicle division. The MV Specialist II may also provide backup to the Driver's License division. This is the second step to a three step career progression within the division.
Motor Vehicle Specialist III:
  • The Motor Vehicle Specialist III is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude and being an effective team player while performing a variety of complex duties associated with Arapahoe County's Motor Vehicle division. The MV Specialist III may also provide backup to the Driver's License division. This is the third step to a three step career progression within the division.

Duties

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of the job at any time.

MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST I:
The MV Specialist must complete an 8 week in house training and maintain a satisfactory performance rating. Upon successful completion, the MV Specialist will have basic knowledge of Colorado requirements and be proficient in the motor vehicle system and be responsible for conducting the following types of transactions:

  • Assisting customers via phone, mail or in person
  • Collecting fees and reconciling cash drawer daily
  • Processing temporary registrations and permits
  • Emissions extensions
  • License plate renewals
  • New registration
  • Refinances
  • Add liens
  • Title transfers to include in and out of state
  • Leases and buy outs
  • Disability placard issuance
  • Perform election related duties as needed
While the MV Specialist reports directly to the Branch Manager, they may also receive direction and supervision from the Assistant Branch Manager, Motor Vehicle Lead, Driver License management, Deputy of Motor Vehicle, Chief Deputy Clerk, and Recorder and the Clerk and Recorder.

The MV Specialist will be reviewed after 10-12 months of hands on training to determine eligibility to progress to the next step in the career progression. Progression is determined by various factors, including but limited to; performance, error rates, professionalism, customer service skills, ability to remain calm and effectively communicate in a stressful and demanding work environment, punctuality and attendance, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, the public and management.

MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST II:
The MV Specialist II must have successfully met the proficiency standards, primary duties and job function requirements of the MV Specialist. This job is required to work independently on the basic transactions learned as a MV Specialist, as well as process more complex transactions such as:
  • Special mobile machinery
  • Bond affidavits
  • Bill of sale
  • Salvage and manufactured homes

The MV Specialist II may be asked to perform the following duties:

  • Driver's License backup. This requires Dept. of Revenue driver's license training course, 3 months in house training, successful completion (85%) of Dept. of Revenue Driver's License written and computer skills test. After successful completion of testing, must be able to work independently on basic driver's license transactions.
  • Marriage Licenses/Civil Union Licenses
While the MV Specialist II reports directly to the Branch Manager, they may also receive direction and supervision from the Assistant Branch Manager, Motor Vehicle Lead, Driver License management, Deputy of Motor Vehicle, Chief Deputy Clerk and Recorder, and the Clerk and Recorder.

The MV Specialist II will be reviewed 12 months of experience to determine eligibility to progress to the next step in the career progression. Progression is determined by various factors, including but limited to; performance, error rates, professionalism, customer service skills, ability to remain calm and effectively communicate in a stressful and demanding work environment, punctuality and attendance, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, the public and management.

MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST III:
The MV Specialist III must have successfully met the proficiency standards, primary duties and job function requirements of the MV Specialist and MV Specialist II. This job is required to work independently on all transactions performed as a MV Specialist and MV Specialist II. The MV Specialist III holds a higher level of knowledge within motor vehicle and provides additional complex support in following areas:
  • Provides assistance, guidance and knowledge transfer to MV Specialist and MV Specialist II
  • Assists management with replying to customer inquiries via phone, email or mail
  • Assists with bookkeeping duties
  • Assists with classroom and/or counter training
  • Conducts research, identifies and resolves complex title/registration issues

The MV Specialist III may be asked to perform the following duties:

  • Driver's License backup
  • Marriage Licenses/Civil Union Licenses
  • Election related duties
  • Special projects

While the MV Specialist III reports directly to the Branch Manager, they may also receive direction and supervision from the Assistant Branch Manager, Motor Vehicle Lead, Driver License management, Deputy of Motor Vehicle, Chief Deputy Clerk and Recorder, and the Clerk and Recorder.

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret state statues, regulations, and procedures applicable to the Motor Vehicle division.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST I:
    • HS diploma or GED equivalent
    • 1-2 years general office experience
    • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered
    MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST II:
    • HS diploma or GED equivalent
    • Meets satisfactory performance standards as a Motor Vehicle Specialist I
    • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered
    MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST III:
    • HS diploma or GED equivalent
    • Meets satisfactory performance standards as a Motor Vehicle Specialist II
    • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Customer Service and cash handling
PRE-EMPLOYMENT ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-employment fingerprint, background, and motor vehicle checks.
  • Part of the selection process requires successful completion of a typing test. Preferred score of 40 WPM with 95% accuracy.
