SUMMARY
A Utility Clerk works in a team/group environment computing and collecting payments from customers for utility services provided by the City of Angleton.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time (8-9 hours daily); speak to general public and City employees; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; and ability to communicate orally and hear over a telephone and through safety glass. Use 10 key calculator and perform basic mathematical functions; utilize hands and fingers to type on a computer keyboard, use printer and scanner.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Receives payment from customers via cash, check, credit card or US mail
- Answer multi line phone system; direct phone calls to appropriate department
- Records transactions on cash register and issues receipts and gives any change due to customer
- Explains charges on bill to customer and initiates action to adjust complaints
- Collects customer application for new services that include proper documentation and deposit
- Sells garbage bags, log recycle bags, dog/cat registration tags
- Plays key role in the calculations and processing of monthly utility bills; loads computers for utility technicians monthly; prints out and stuffs bills for mailing
- Utilize basic math skills; required to make change as needed
- Will interact with the general public and provide excellent customer service
- Must be able to use 10-key calculator, multi-line phone system, and personal computer.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Five (5) to six (6) months related experience and/or training preferred.
