Responsibilities:
The Cargo Claims Specialist handles and resolves complex claims with customers, shippers, consignees, and carriers relating to cargo loss incidents. In this role, the Cargo Claims Specialist will evaluate, negotiate and authorize settlements with all stakeholders within the designated level of authority. We are looking for creative, collaborative, and positive individuals who can add value and quality to our team.

  • Investigate, negotiate, and process cargo claims in accordance with various customer's policies and procedures within industry standards using knowledge of carrier claims practices.
  • Assess coverage.
  • Provide transportation guidance and expertise in complex cargo claim cases, provides cargo claim resolutions and responds timely to cargo claim resolution disputes with customers.
  • Investigate and determine liability.
  • Take recorded statements.
  • Assign and manage third party vendors such as appraisers and local independent adjusters, as needed.
  • Assess total losses per local laws and determent total loss claim value.
  • Set accurate and timely reserves.
  • Identify opportunities for subrogation and salvage recovery.
  • Proactively control file expense.
  • Identify possible fraud and engage SIU for state fraud referrals.
  • Communicate with other departments including Underwriting and Actuarial.
  • Participate in insurance related continuing education.
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned
  • Some travel may be required up to 10%.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of commercial motor truck cargo claims handling experience
  • 3-5 years of commercial auto claims handling experience
  • Adjustor license preferred
