About La Puente Home, Inc.
La Puente is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Colorado's San Luis Valley by providing food, shelter, and advocacy for the homeless and community members in crisis. La Puente endeavors to meet immediate needs and to empower people to live independently with dignity. The organization operates a homeless shelter and soup kitchen , a network of 15 food pantries, homeless prevention services, a permanent supportive housing program for families, an after school and summer program for at-risk children, and a community garden and nutrition education program.
Job Title: Parent/Caregiver & Graduate PALS Advocate
Reports to: Director of PALS
Job Summary:
Work with the Director to develop and administer the Parent/Caregiver & Graduate PALS program - working with and coaching PALS families and continued connection with graduated PALS kids, reach out and establish relationships with current and past PALS families, oversee assessment and data collection regarding this new program, participate in weekly PALS staff meetings, and work with current PALS case load as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
Work with families to:
· Build routines with families
· Benchmark progress of children
· Educating families on typical milestones
· Set family goals (data collection around this),
· Be a liaison to the school other community service providers
· Educate parents on their rights
· Setting personal goals with parents/care-givers
· Understanding available resources
· Family coaching
· Participate in Parent Groups
· Work with PALS therapist on case management
· In person and phone check-ins with graduated PALS
· Continued skill development with graduated PALS
· Connect graduate PALS with resources
· Fill in with current PALS cohorts as needed
· Perform other duties as needed and appointed by the PALS director
· Requirements:
· Warm, outgoing, and engaging personality
· Strong ability to listen
· Flexible Schedule
· Previous experience working with children
· Willingness to make an eighteen month commitment
· Commitment to the mission of the program and its impact on the community
· Knowledge and interest in working with a diverse group of people
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Commitment to working as a team to be successful
· Preferred college degree in a education/ social work/ or other human service related field
· Strong organizational skills, project and multi task management
Other skills and Abilities:
· Spanish language skills helpful
· Computer skills helpful
Salary: $36,000- $38,000
