Career Advisement Coordinator - Early Childhood Innovation Center Job at Delaware State University

The Career Advisement Coordinator will work under the direction of the Early Childhood Initiatives Officer of the Early Childhood Innovation Center (ECIC) to carry out a common vision for excellence in professional learning and higher education for early learning professionals. This position will provide real-time career advice and be responsible for supporting individuals at various stages of their career in Early Childhood Education.
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
- Serves as the main point of contact to coordinate and connect ECE professionals with the appropriate scholarship program (CDA/AA/BA) and resources.
- Answers a variety of career advisement questions for potential early childhood and school-aged professionals and provide excellent customer service via multiple platforms, including, but not limited to, phone, email, and virtual meeting rooms.
- Conducts individual and small group meetings with current and aspiring early childhood professionals in support of developing and meeting their career goals.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and serve as a subject matter expert in career advisement and navigating various professional development and higher education systems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Experience with coordinating efforts with various internal/external stakeholders and community partners to ensure projects/initiatives are executed in the most efficient way possible.
- The individual will be versatile, have strong technological, organizational, and writing skills, and who will create and maintain a positive tone throughout the team.
- Proactively alert management of potential anticipated issues.
- Ability to connect individuals seeking information on early childhood programs and services to the correct agency/person.
- Superior ability problem-solve effectively and efficiently, while anticipating any potential barriers ahead of time before they effect project/program/reporting timelines.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to consistently produce results when up against tight deadlines.
- Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the Early Childhood Initiatives Officer.
- Understand the mission of DSU as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Direct career advisement experience in early childhood and/or direct experience with OCCL staff qualifications may be substituted for degree requirement
The criteria for evaluation in this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the DSU core values.
- Demonstrated ability to provide support to students that is timely and individualized and grounded in best practice and to connect with the early childhood community to ensure knowledge of the program.
