POSITION SUMMARY
Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on trucks, trailers, and vehicles in the operations in a safe, timely cost effective and practical manner. Uses a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish assigned maintenance functions and assists more experienced mechanics as required. Completes and documents all repairs and preventive maintenance according to Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines. Works within skill level and experience. Regularly communicates with Supervisor regarding work progress, repairs, preventive maintenance concerns, and other questions to minimize impact to transportation of crude operations. Practices safe work processes and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a safe and clean working environment for self and others.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Degree from vo-tech or specialized training in diesel or auto mechanics' field preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and possess basic computer skills to run applicable maintenance programs
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Two years' experience performing preventive maintenance inspections, changing oil and filters, lubricating chassis, minor repairs, and performing tire work
- Vo-tech training and one year experience
- Ability to disassemble and replace components such as brake shoes, brake cams, slack adjusters, drums, suspension parts, springs, airbags, wheel bearings, seals, clutches, starters, alternators, fan hubs, water pumps, fan belts, transmissions, third members, product pumps. AC components, external engine components and diagnose after treatment and check engine light problems
- Knowledge and understanding of DOT rules and regulations.
- Driving tractor trailer units in and out of the shop, around the terminal yard, and otherwise as assigned
- Valid driving license
- CDL with Haz Mat endorsement preferred
- Knowledge of Paccar, Cummins, Bendix, and Eaton software preferred
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed, flexible shifts, some weekends, and the ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs
- Must supply own hand tools per minimum required list
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Inspect, service, and perform preventive maintenance on equipment for a safe operation and compliance with DOT rules and regulations
- Performs additional duties as assigned
- Willingness to be called out to work after hours
- Document all repairs for DOT required maintenance files
- Help maintain clean safe working environment in shop
- Test, calibrate, and document testing of safety equipment in shop
- Assist with training of employees within operation of safety items on trucks and trailers
- Regularly communicate with Supervisor work progress, concerns, and questions
EXPECTED RESULTS
- Regular inspection, service, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment to ensure that all equipment is safe and in compliance with DOT rules, as well as company standards
- Assist shop supervisor in providing pro-active preventative maintenance, service, and repairs in a timely, safe, and cost-effective practical manner
- Assist shop supervisor to ensure that equipment will complete DOT roadside inspections with no violations
- Accurate and timely maintenance reports and records of repair
- Maintain a clean organized workspace and shop while complying with disposal regulations of all generated waste products
- Adherence to all company policies and procedures
