As business litigation counsel in the Legal Department of Yum! Brands – the parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and The Habit Burger Grill – you will advise and assist our business on pending disputes and litigation risk management. You will work with all levels within the Yum! and Brand Legal Departments, including legal assistants, paralegals, other attorneys, and business teams, to advise and manage Yum!’s e-discovery program; manage outside counsel litigation teams; conduct legal research and draft memos on various litigation issues; prepare dispute updates for senior leadership; and advise the business and other members of the Legal Department on risk of litigation related to various projects and issues. The preferred location for this role is Louisville, Kentucky or Plano, Texas. The role will require occasional travel to office locations in the US and other locations connected to various litigation projects. The role will report to the Associate General Counsel.
Salary Range: $131,600 to $170,280 annually + bonus eligibility.This is the expected salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining pay, we'll consider the successful candidate’s location, experience, and other job-related factors.
Responsibilities:
- Manage Yum! Brands’ portfolio of arbitration and litigation, including class actions and single plaintiff matters across the US; partner with employment team on employee-specific matters
- Lead the evolution of the Department’s internal e-discovery processes
- Manage outside counsel on significant litigation and coordinate with internal stakeholders
- Manage responses to litigation information requests and prepare for, attend, and assist in depositions, hearings, and trials
- Conduct legal research and draft memos, as needed; review and advise outside counsel on briefs and pleadings
- Manage case files and ensure that all deadlines are met
Minimum Requirements
- Graduate of an ABA accredited law school
- Admitted or eligible for admission to the Kentucky or Texas bar
- 5+ years of litigation experience in a law firm, in-house with a public company, or government capacity, including experience managing disputes, pre-litigation matters, legal risk assessments and all other components of the litigation lifecycle
- Experience managing complex e-discovery projects and consumer class action litigation
- Demonstrated ability to be highly organized and work on multiple tasks at the same time in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience advising consumer facing retail businesses on litigation issues
- Familiarity with data privacy and consumer protection laws in the United States as well as federal securities laws
- Excellent listening and analytical skills with the ability to communicate clearly and distill complex or ambiguous issues into concise and actionable advice
- Ability to self-start and drive action individually and collaboratively and influence others in a collegial environment
- Sound judgment, critical thinking and analytical skills
- High personal and professional integrity and the ability to establish personal credibility and trust across the organization while working with highly sensitive and confidential information
