Position Overview
The Upholsterer is to perform a wide variety of tasks in a boat manufacturing facility. Fabrication tasks performed may include upholstering, assembling, fitting, cutting material, building cabinetry, routing, and installing.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to read and understand production schedule and maintain time studies for production status and communication
- Ability to read and understand job descriptions and prints
- Ability to read and understand measuring equipment
- Ability to operate staple guns, nail guns, da sander, snap set, hammers, hot-knife cutters, and other industrial equipment
- Working knowledge of procedures, instructions, and documents as it relates to the quality system
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must be able to adapt to changing requirements in a positive and proactive way
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels within the organization
- Must be flexible to work extended hours to support the requirements of the business.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Must always possess the desire and ambition to work safely and report all hazards to their Supervisor immediately
- Must understand basic terminology such as OSHA, DEP, and other regulatory agencies
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment where designated, including but not limited to, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.
- Must be able to understand and complete the OSHA questionnaire, pass spirometer test, and physically wear a respirator where required
- Must be able to physically handle the requirements of the job, including lifting, bending, climbing stairs, standing, etc., with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to understand all safety related document and worksite rules and practices, equipment operating instructions, documented safety management systems, and health and safety requirements, including the General Safety Rules and Individual Safety Commitment.
- High school diploma or GED required
Shift: This position could be for first shift, 5:00am – 3:30pm or 6:00am-4:30pm, or second shift (4:30pm – 3:00am (Mon-Thurs). Overtime frequently required based on business needs. Boston Whaler reserves the right to adjust shifts and times as business needs arise.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
