Our Camp Greene Wood day camp is a place where energetic and passionate staff come together to provide a safe and positive learning environment for girls ages 5-17.


As camp’s Behavioral and Wellness Specialist you will be critical to the success of the summer. In your role you are responsible for the overall health and safety of campers and staff with a focus on mental health, behavior management, and self-care. You will provide behavioral, mental, and emotional support to campers and staff and assist individuals to eliminate or replace ineffective or negative interactions with appropriate and positive interactions. As a staff member, you will:

  • Collaborate with fellow camp staff to deliver a program designed to build girls of courage, confidence, and character
  • Problem-solve to encourage camper growth and prioritize safety and wellbeing
  • Exercise excellent leadership through role modelling positive behaviors, responsibility, initiative, and good sportsmanship
  • Express your creativity developing innovative and fun ways to engage an audience of two to 200
  • Make a positive difference in hundreds of lives and have fun at summer camp while you do it!


Work Commitment:

  • The Camp Greene Wood summer season runs from June 1, 2023, through August 5, 2023, including staff training. Camp will not be in session July 3, 2023, through July 6, 2023; this time is unpaid.
  • Day camp staff typically work from 7:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with an extended day on Thursday until 9:00 p.m. every week.


Camp Staff Benefits:

  • This is a paid summer camp position.
  • Pay range: $695-$720 per week; dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Optional Archery, Lifeguard, and Small Craft training available if interested.

Behavioral and Wellness Specialist Qualifications:

  • Loves to interact with children and has prior experience working with children of various ages experiencing behavioral, mental, or emotional health challenges.
  • Enjoys spending time outdoors and has prior experience working in an outdoor setting.
  • Certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid or a similar MESH training (CAN, LPN, RN, EMT, PA, or Licensed Paramedic with credentials to work in state where camp is located may also be considered).
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in related field (Ideally candidate is in third or fourth year of, or has graduated with, a BA in Social Work or Psychology; Licensed Clinical Social Work, Psychologist, or Psychiatrist preferred).
  • 21 years of age or older by June 12, 2023 (23 years of age with valid driver’s license preferred).
  • Willingness to work and, at times, live in an indoor and outdoor camp setting, which includes working irregular hours with limited or simple equipment, rustic facilities, wildlife and insects; limited technology while at camp, and daily exposure to sun, rain, and other weather conditions.


Behavioral and Wellness Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for campers and staff.
  • Help build a supportive environment where campers can grow, make new friends, and try new things.
  • Assist in developing behavior management guidelines and positive behavioral intervention strategies appropriate for our camp environment.
  • Review camper and staff health histories to anticipate individual needs and determine camp support needed, connecting with the leadership team and/or camper families as necessary.
  • Support campers and staff with empathy, open communication, guidance, and encouragement while providing strategies and activities for behavior management as desired, including stress-relief, self-esteem growth, and de-escalation.
  • Provide support to campers and staff in individual and group settings to examine and assist with pertinent issues or behaviors, including anxiety, anger, depression, conflict, group morale, homesickness, peer pressure, relationships, self-care, self-image, stress, and more.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of mental/emotional health education and behavior management staff training sessions.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff as they manage camper behavior while also staying informed and prepared to directly step in to help resolve when appropriate.
  • Assume shared responsibility for the physical health, safety, and mental welfare of the camp community.
  • Willingness and ability to commute between day camps located in Woodridge, IL and Palos Park, IL throughout the camp week and as needed with the primary camp location being Woodridge, IL.
  • Other duties as assigned.
