The Abrons Arts Center is the arts program of Henry Street Settlement. Job Summary:

The Audio/Video Specialist (AVS) oversees the implementation of the audio and video production aspects of our presentational spaces. This includes support for all users of the three theaters, several gallery spaces, and supporting spaces such as the scene shop, dressing rooms, and other areas. The AVS will report to the Associate Director of Production (ADP) in all their duties. The AVS will with the other production department staff ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all production staff including per diem over hires. As one of the primaries faces that artists will see in the theater, it is of the utmost importance that the AVS also foster and maintain a positive working relationship with all artists while helping to realize their creative visions on stage.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be a self-starter and motivated leader with the ability to multi-task
  • Must work well in teams, collaborate with various departments and work with artists across various skill levels
  • An excellent working knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures of sound and video as they relate to theater, dance, and music productions and presentations as well as gallery art installations.
  • Ability to organize and manage a team of performance technicians to achieve goals quickly, efficiently, and safely
  • Strong live mixing skills on digital consoles, specifically Yamaha LS-9 and TF-1, and experience with analog consoles required
  • Proficiency in planning, hanging, cabling, and focusing projectors, specifically Panasonic projectors, and P-Link software required
  • Strong skills in Q Lab, office software, basics of computer networking and general proficiency with computer systems required
  • Skills in Max MSP, Ableton Live, and live recording preferred but not required

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee implementation of all audio and video aspects of productions at the Arts Center
  • Supervise daily operations of all over hire technicians assigned to audio/video duties
  • Orient performance groups to audio and video systems of the venues as needed
  • Work with performance groups to implement audio and video aspects of each show or event; With other production department staff, maintain and operate technical systems for theater, dance, music and other productions and projects
  • Where appropriate and possible, facilitate on-the-job training of technical staff
  • With other production department staff, maintain and operate technical systems for all performances, events, and exhibitions
  • With other production department staff, monitor the condition of and safeguard all Production Department equipment including lighting, sound, video, and rigging equipment
  • Arrange for the repair and replacement of equipment within budget
  • Ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality of audio and video gear and their backstage storage areas
  • Maintain expendables inventory and order supplies in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Essential Physical Job Functions:

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and move swiftly through the building
