Job Summary

The Audio Comms Specialist II acts as the liaison between remote locations, studio, and control room staff, configuring in-house intercom systems to meet the communication needs for event and studio-based productions. They also respond to various communications requests for DMED’s growing intercom communication network. They are responsible for acquiring and maintaining exceptional knowledge of the growing intercom network and use of all broadcast equipment and technology within assigned operating areas, including but not limited to intercom devices and all associated hardware and software, broadcast routers, trunking procedures, mix-minus, microphone and IFB signal flows and wireless PL (Party Line) systems.

Responsibilities/Duties of the Role

  • Proficient level of operational skills and abilities in the use of all broadcast equipment and technology within assigned operating areas, including but not limited to; intercom devices (RTS/Riedel/Unity) and all associated hardware and software, broadcast routers, trunking procedures, mix-minus, microphone and IFB signal flows, and wireless PL systems.
  • Works directly with Remote Operations Specialists and other external clients, to establish intercom connectivity between Charlotte and remote locations.
  • Proficient problem solving and troubleshooting techniques and effective communication to best convey the issues necessary for resolution.
  • In-depth understanding of other business units, including their impact and/or specific integration with Production Operations.
  • Ability to interpret and understand complex information and disseminate it to proper personnel.
  • Organizational skills and resource/workflow planning expertise are required.
  • Participation in training programs, (physical, classroom, virtual, etc.) for career development and/or regarding any relevant equipment and workflow changes within the operation. Expected to train others in operational areas and generate training documentation.
  • Highly developed knowledge of broadcast methods of measuring audio signals to ensure quality control of ESPN endorsed standards on all operations.
  • Participation in required administrative tasks including, but not limited to time entry, daily shift reports and travel and expense reports as necessary.

  • Any other duties as needed to help achieve business objectives

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years practical Television Production or related experience at the large market or network level
  • Ability to perform tasks under tight deadlines, work independently and manage simultaneous projects.
  • Working nights, holidays, and weekends is required.
  • Flexibility to alter shifts/days off and work overtime to accommodate productions, projects, and departmental objectives.
  • Candidates must have a working knowledge of standard software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc...)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid knowledge of all TV Production equipment and technology within assigned operating areas, including but not limited to; multiple intercom software and hardware systems, IP (Internet Protocol) based networking knowledge, broadcast routers, wireless PL systems, RF (Radio Frequency) microphone transmitters, and receivers, RF IFB transmitters and receivers.
  • Bilingual (written and spoken) – English/Spanish

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Studio Production, Journalism, or related field
  • Vocational School Certification
