Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a motivated professional to serve as a Associate Technical Writer/Editor - level 1 (IPB) to join our diverse team of professionals located in Palmdale, Ca.
The Technical Writer/Editor will derive information from released technical source and/or may assist in the development of them with engineers and SMEs. Using the source materials, the writer is expected to interpret, formulate, affect data and will write, re-write and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
Will identify and resolve moderate scope and complexity discrepancies within engineering drawings and blue prints that may impact data. Coordinate findings with team members and may refer findings to established precedents and policies to include consulting the engineering group and SMEs. Will assist in the review of products with the customer and can advise its proper use.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree (Technical or Professional Writing, English, or Communications). In lieu of formal education, 4 years relevant job experience may be considered
Knowledge in interpretation of engineering data such as parts list, application list, notes list and print reading
Knowledgeable with configuration management.
Knowledge with creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity, indentured parts-lists from engineering and LSA data
Knowledgeable with isometric Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) graphics and layout.
Knowledgeable with creating and reviewing IPBs using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807
Knowledgeable with aviation maintenance technical publication development and sustainment using applicable software (e.g. Arbortext Editor)
Able to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints, relay, and receive information and collaborate in a team environment
Have strong writing, and editing skills, and experience in manipulating grammar
Knowledge in querying authors for clarity and compliance purposes and must be skilled in Microsoft Word, MS excel, and PowerPoint
Experience as a military aircraft maintainer
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance and be and has the ability to obtain and retain Special Program access clearance within 365 days from submission
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DoD Secret security clearance
History of collaboration in small teams with different organizations
Proficient in the interpretation of engineering data such as parts list, application list, notes list and print reading
Proficient with configuration management
Proficient in creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity indentured parts lists from engineering data
Ability to identify and possibly work around limited engineering data
Proficient with creating and revising IPB’s using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807
