Loxo@Lilly, the oncology unit of Lilly, is focused on rapidly delivering impactful new medicines for people with cancer. Responsibilities:
The Associate Director, Oncology Communications will play an important role in external and internal communications activities for Loxo@Lilly. The role has three primary areas of focus 1) developing and executing the social media strategy for the Loxo@Lilly LinkedIn page, 2) supporting cross-portfolio and pipeline communications needs, and 3) executing internal communications activities.
The position will be part of the Oncology Corporate Affairs team, working closely with the Senior Director, Oncology Corporate Affairs and operating cross-functionally within Oncology, as well as with other Communications and Corporate Affairs colleagues.
Primary responsibilities will include:
  • Social media
    • Overseeing the Loxo@Lilly LinkedIn page, including driving and executing creative, compelling, and compliant digital and social strategies and content.
    • Developing organic, paid and sponsored content strategies, in coordination with agency partners.
    • Partnering across Oncology corporate affairs, brand and functional teams and other Lilly teams to develop and extend the reach of content.
    • Effectively measuring and calibrating social strategies and campaigns.
    • Overseeing the work of the external communications agency.
  • Cross-portfolio and pipeline communications
    • Helping to conceive and execute communications plans related to Loxo@Lilly corporate and cross-portfolio priorities.
    • Providing communications support for pipeline programs, including around data readouts and other milestones.
      • Assisting in the development of press releases, standby statements, Q&As and key message documents.
  • Internal communications
    • Helping drive understanding of oncology strategy and goals and build culture through compelling internal communications.
    • Coordinating logistics and content for Oncology town halls.
    • Overseeing content for internal channels such as the intranet and Yammer.
    • Working with business partners to support a variety of internal communications needs.
  • Assisting with other communications projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field, including healthcare or science.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a professional communications position (journalist or corporate communicator) or related field.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position
Additional Skills/Preferences:
  • Direct experience with social media strategy development and execution.
  • Work experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech or other healthcare related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and execution of creative and strategic social media and/or communication plans.
  • Superior writing skills and ability to translate complex messages, data and scientific content into clear, concise, compelling communications for laymen, HCP and consumer audiences.
  • Understanding of traditional and social media landscapes and how to utilize various channels to maximize impact.
  • Proactive, self-starter able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Extreme learning agility and multi-tasking capabilities. Must be fluent in juggling many projects at once in a fast-paced environment and able to work against frequent deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across functional and geographic boundaries as well as across, up, and down the organizational ladder.
  • Ability to understand the business need and use communication to drive the business forward.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage within a matrixed environment.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, follow through and high sense of urgency.
  • Passion for oncology.
