We provide home-based child care businesses with the training and resources to succeed. Through a wide range of free programs and workshops, we support parents and caregivers as they build child development
skills. As the city’s second-largest nonprofit contractor, with an annual budget of over $120 million, we are a major stakeholder in the child care system. POSITION SUMMARY:
Children’s Council is on a journey to move from transactional to transformational support and services for families and child care educators. In doing so, we need to address inequities within our system and throughout our city. San Francisco is investing in Early Care and Education for our Black community. The Associate Director will lead a set of Black ECE Initiatives and programs working in partnership with community stakeholders and organizations. This is a new role in the organization that will address the need to recruit, retain and support quality Black educators within our ECE system while providing the tools, resources and supports for career advancement and quality professional development.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:
Leadership and Partnership
- Lead our Black ECE Pipeline to Career Development Program in partnership with City College of San Francisco, Family Friend & Neighbor Institute, High School Summer Vocational Program.
- Lead and manage key partnerships with organizations and stakeholders, support the recruitment of participants, and supervise expenses and the budget of the programs.
- Meet all grant requirements for the programs.
- Supervise staff to manage stakeholder relationships and logistics.
- Monitor retention, progress toward goals, participant academic outcomes, job/career placement opportunities.
- Ability to build new relationships with Family Friend & Neighbor Programs, Schools, FCCs and Center Directors.
- Partner with ECE providers to build a network of supports for participants and potential job placements for participants after they complete our Black ECE programs.
- Engage with internal staff and executive leaders to report and provide updates on the program.
Program Implementation
- Oversee recruitment and retention of participants and monitor all program elements as articulated in the grant proposal.
- Coordinate and facilitate routine meetings with partnering agencies while adhering to the partnership commitments.
- Manage a yearlong ECE career pipeline program with Black ECE providers and program participants.
- Manage stipend disbursement to finance dept and oversee the resource allocation to participants and providers in and during the program.
- Develop reports with detailed documentation and monitor program progress in order to replicate and scale in the future.
- Create an impact screen to ensure we are meeting and exceeding program goals – to be shared with outside parties – HRC; First 5; OECE, other networks.
- Implements high-quality feedback loops to continuously improve program elements.
Project and Financial Management
- Manage budget to meet all financial requirements per the city grant.
- Submit proper paperwork in a timely manner to get the stipends out to providers in a timely manner.
- Maintain all receipts, financial reports, and follow Children’s Council financial guidelines.
- Manage reporting and progress monitoring with government agencies and partners.
- Work with Finance team to issue regular payments and stipends to participants and partners. Develop progress reports for internal staff and Board aligned to intended outcomes.
- Adhere to organizational policies, laws, regulations and professional standards governing our work .
- Attends all organizational meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 5 years of proven performance and leadership experience focused on serving targeted populations
- Demonstrated analytical skills and problem-solving mindset.
- Direct experience managing funded programs.
- Through your experience, show a commitment to social equity. Must also be well versed on issues faced by financially and socially vulnerable families.
- Direct experience working with diverse staff, families, or children.
- Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills with keen attention to detail.
- Adept at thinking strategically, translating plans into action, and exhibiting excellent judgment.
- Strong project management skills and experience leading and directing teams. Must have experience motivating and engaging a diverse group of leaders, vendors, and partner agencies.
- Experience with, and the ability to use and present data in order to influence and advocate for families.
- Ability to self-direct and prioritize projects, competing goals and deadlines; exhibit flexibility, and drive for achieving results (and meeting deadlines) in a fast-paced environment.
- Should be available to work a flexible schedule (to accommodate an occasional evening or weekend)
- Bachelor’s Degree in ECE, social services or related fields.
- Knowledge of San Francisco Early Childhood & Educational systems, partners, and city agencies, a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to move throughout the office, access files, ability to drive to and/or meet with staff and
external partners in the community.
- Require the mental acuity to perform the essential functions as outlined in an accurate and timely fashion.
