Our Associate Controller will partner directly with our Chief Financial Officer among others to provide sound financial accounting, management, and direction to the organization through the capture of our financial results, solid planning and reporting, and accurate analysis using financial tools and operating budgets to enable strong fiscal performance against strategic, financial, and operational objectives.
Role Responsibilities:
Besides the obligatory bean counting (comes with the territory) our Associate Controller will be responsible for all facets of accounting operations:

  • Team Leadership
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and daily guidance and support to accounting direct reports
  • Partner with our CFO to define and develop departmental goals and objectives
  • Continuously build, refine, and streamline accounting and financial reporting processes
  • Accounting Oversight:
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting functions, including financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, purchasing, and cash flow management
  • Lead a timely and accurate month-end and year-end financial close process that follows GAAP
  • Manage revenue generating transactions, including professional services invoicing
  • Provide oversight of the general ledger, including production of the key monthly financial statements and comparisons to budget and prior year, ensuring accuracy and consistency of transaction posting
  • Partner with HR Manager for all compensation management (i.e., payroll, commissions, bonus plans, and other labor-related accruals); Serve as backup for payroll processing when needed
  • Compliance Activities:
  • Partner with HR Manager for all compliance-related employee tax filings
  • Coordinate with external tax service provider to ensure tax compliance and preparation including multi-state sales tax returns, property tax returns and annual reports.
  • Preparation of all supporting documentation required for income tax reporting prior to submission to external tax service provider

Day in the Life of our Associate Controller:

  • Provide daily guidance and support to accounting team of 5+ direct reports
  • Lead the interview process and engage in onboarding, training, coaching and development activities of direct reports to ensure team is productive, engaged, challenged and learning
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with team members
  • Maintain detailed schedule of certain assets, liabilities, and corporate contracts
  • Coordinate periodic audits (tax or contract-clause related)
  • Prepare and review journal entries
  • Support the creation and refinement of budgets and forecasts with Financial Planning Manager
  • Prepare detailed and precise financial and operational reports
  • Attend leadership, department, and company meetings

Role Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA preferred.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience and responsibility, 2+ years’ experience at an Associate Controller or Sr. Accounting Manager level at a public company.
  • Previous experience with cloud-based accounting software; Acumatica or NetSuite experience is a plus
  • Experience managing individuals and teams
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, with expertise in revenue recognition, professional services industry, accounting policies and procedures, and internal controls
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications: Excel: Advanced level skills (having them will make your life easier and our team better!), Word, and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
  • Exhibit a high-level of engagement, ownership, appropriate urgency, and accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle (metaphorically anyway) multiple projects with accuracy and precision
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Ability to build connecting relationships with co-workers, particularly senior leaders, clients, and vendors.
