Job Title: Assistant VLC Principal

Summary:
The person in this position will assist the principal in managing teacher and student accountability in the Virtual Learning Center setting; most importantly, this involves evaluating learning opportunities in the classroom and state testing readiness. The assistant principal will work under the direction of the principal as an instructional leader and oversee day-to-day operations with regard to instruction and quality assurance monitoring. Additionally, this individual will manage a wide range of special projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- The Assistant principal, under the direction of the principal, is responsible for overseeing all instructional operations of the school working with parents, students, support staff and certified teachers in the VLC environment, including making sure student to staff ratios are in compliance and that appropriate coverage is in place at all times.
- Assist in interviewing paraprofessionals and teachers for the VLC environment. Act as an instructional leader to drive student achievement
- Ensure that teachers and paraprofessionals exhibit and maintain a high level of instruction, professionalism, instructional support and customer service
- Ensure the academic success of individual students by utilizing all levels of academic support available and working with teachers to deliver program information and address individual student needs
- Continuously monitors and evaluates instructional staff performance; produces statistical analysis on a regular basis to improve the quality of teaching
- Provides timely feedback to instructional staff
- Provides detailed teacher performance reports on a weekly basis Interfaces with parents and students
- Communicates weekly with instructional staff the priorities for the given week
- Assists in the planning of some of the professional development, trainings and meetings for staff
- Coordinates with all other departments to ensure that the educational needs of all students are met
- Ensures that instructional staff are in a constant mode of improvement to increase student achievement
- Support all instructional staff to troubleshoot issues and offer support as needed To perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position directly assists in the supervision of a team of 15-20 teachers and paraprofessionals, as well as approximately 500 students.
Education and/or Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Educational Administration/Leadership, required
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, required
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership in an educational setting Leadership experience in education preferred
- Demonstration of effective interpersonal and communication skills Prior experience at the middle school and high school level preferred Experience teaching within a virtual learning environment preferred
- A minimum of 3 years teaching experience
- An understanding of charter school operations, differentiated learning, and virtual learning
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to direct reports, top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with EdPlan preferred. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.

- Ability to work effectively in a sometimes high-stress environment; Ability to work under pressure; pay attention to detail; meet deadlines; deal with dificult individuals while maintaining composure
- Ability to maintain professional confidentiality and comply with FERPA regulations Organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal expression is essential to the position Analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
