General Description of Position:

Reports directly to the Superintendent and is responsible for:

  • Lead all district initiatives that address school improvement and curriculum and instruction.
  • Continue to foster a culture across all curriculum departments that is student centered and servant minded.
  • Provide unity and focus for all curriculum departments and all 17 schools and Area Career Center.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the coordination of all curricular functions.
  • Develop and support professional development initiatives, including but not limited to Cultural Competency and Trauma-Informed Practices.
  • Representative for online curriculum – Indiana Online, Edmentum
  • Co-chair evaluation and compensation committee with the Assistant Superintendent and assures compliance with the state submission of the plan.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent to address staffing needs on a district-wide basis.
  • Lead district initiatives surrounding E-learning days.
  • Communicate curriculum and instructional initiatives with the community using print and digital media platforms.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to provide financial support for the instructional programs on a district-wide basis.
  • Serve as a liaison to the staff, community, and related educational organizations in the area of curriculum and instruction.
  • Advocate for the needs of curriculum and instruction as a member of the Superintendent’s core leadership team.
  • Assist in the development of Board Policies and Administrative Guidelines related to curriculum and instruction.
  • Serve as a resource in the areas of research, trends and practices in the field of curriculum and instruction, professional development, and instructional technology.
  • Advocate for the educational philosophy, policies, and administrative guidelines of the district to staff, students and community.
  • Serve as Chairperson of the Curriculum Team for curriculum development and planning.
  • Provides presentations and communications regarding curriculum and instruction development and planning to the school board on a regular and as-needed bases.
  • Lead school improvement initiatives across the district.
  • Provide leadership in data disaggregation, trends, and application of student assessment data.
  • Provide specialized support and leadership to schools identified by the state as CSI/TSI / Executive Directors.
  • Provide leadership and development to the curriculum department heads and school principals.
  • Lead and administer the following departments: Special Education, Language Development Program, Curriculum, Assessment, Pre Schools, Head Start, Executive Director of Elementary, Secondary, Alternative Programs, CTE Programs, and Adult Education.
  • Serve as the liaison with higher educational institutions for student teacher placement.
  • Serve as the chairperson for k-12 textbook adoption.
  • Work collaboratively with the Office of Federal Grants.
  • Write for grants as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders when implementing change.


Performance Metrics:

  • Improve student performance on state assessments
  • Improve the district graduation rate
  • Improve outcomes for all students


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of master’s degree; Doctorate preferred.
  • Valid Indiana School Administration license.
  • Previous District Office experience preferred.
  • Minimum of five years administrative experience is required, with at least 3 as a Principal.
  • Culturally competent, transformative leader with proven success in an urban school environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals, measure them, and produce results.
  • Must excel at communicating a vision of curriculum excellence to multiple internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the school district.
  • New Tech or Project-Based Learning experience strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to diversity in all its expressions through leadership and decision making.
  • Must model and believe in servant-leadership.
  • Must model and demonstrate a growth mindset and reflective practice.
  • Knowledgeable of Graduation Pathways – (Indiana)
  • Knowledgeable of Dual Credit Programs
