Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance
The MSW Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching graduate-level social work courses for Chamberlain College of Health Professions. This position provides the educational focus of teaching (classroom, applied practice experience/fieldwork, and other learning environments) as well as committee work. Service to the College, community, healthcare system, social work profession, and scholarly activities are integral aspects of this position. The Assistant Professor is expected to meet specified faculty outcomes each year.

Responsibilities
    Evidence-Based Teaching/ Learning and Master Instruction
    Takes responsibility for program outcomes by implementing the College’s philosophy, curriculum and course objectives through the online and immersion classroom, applied practice experience (fieldwork) assignments, and service to the College, community, healthcare system and profession.
    Develops curricular/teaching innovations in the annual preparation and revision of all assigned course(s).
    Develops assignments consistent with students’ knowledge base, skill competency and learning needs.
    Assumes responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads.
    Assists with the monitoring of fieldwork agencies for appropriateness for student applied practice experiences and ability to meet course outcomes.
    Provides indirect supervision and evaluation of students in the applied practice experience (fieldwork) setting.
    In cooperation with field agencies and college departments, provides oversight for applied practice experience preceptors/mentors for student fieldwork experiences and coordinates and evaluates those preceptors/mentors.
    Provides documented feedback to students on level of performance based on course outcomes.
    Provides student remediation within assigned courses.
    Communicates up-to-date information about fieldwork agency policies, procedures, and expectations.
    Professional Role Model/ Chamberlain Care
    Serves as a positive professional role model for students, assisting in their professional/social development.
    Serves as an informal leader, mentor, and role model for other faculty and staff in the areas of customer service, collaboration, scholarship, communication, excellence and general professionalism.
    Mentors new faculty members.
    Commitment to the Social Work Profession
    Participates in professional activities outside the College
    Professional Service
    Contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of the programs and the philosophy of the College.
    Participates in academic advisement and counseling for an assigned group of students while participating in assessment of potential and real counseling concerns for all students with whom the faculty come into contact.
    Contributes to the development and evaluation of student admission, progression, retention and graduation policies within the College.
    Provides opportunities for student and graduate evaluation of curriculum and teaching and program effectiveness.
    Provides recommendations to the program coordinator regarding budget needs for the college.
    A faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor demonstrates basic leadership within the College by accepting or initiating, as part of the workload, responsibility for activities such as:
    Chairing and/or serving on College and University committees
    Chairing and/or serving on work groups that contribute to preparation for accreditation visits
    Gathering and analyzing data relate to the College and University assessment program.
    Serving as course coordinator or Subject Matter Expert (SME)
    Documenting actions taken in faculty and committee meetings as appropriate
    Social Work Practice Expertise
    Demonstrates scholarship through the Scholarship of Teaching, Discovery, Application, or Integration congruent with expectations of assigned rank.
    Demonstrates a practice of scholarly teaching characterized by keeping course materials and content current, applying principles of evidence-based teaching, participating in and welcoming peer review of teaching, and reflection on one’s own teaching.
    Lifelong Learning
    Develops leadership skills through formal course work or continuing education
    Expectations of Rank
    Faculty expectations for teaching, service, and scholarship vary by assigned rank. Variability due to rank is based on experience, professional development, and ability to contribute to the College and the profession. Differences among ranks are demonstrated with progressively wider spheres of influence. The assistant professor’s sphere grows to the campus, course, and/or program level. Expectations of faculty build on one another as one progresses in rank. It is assumed that faculty beyond the rank of instructor have the ability to meet all expectations of the preceding rank.
    Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and a doctorate (Ph.D. or DSW) in social work Required or
  • related field Required
  • 2 years post-MSW experience in social work. Required and
  • 2 years previous ranked teaching experience at the position of Instructor or higher Required and
  • Experientially prepared for assigned courses Required and
  • Previous online teaching experience Required
  • Demonstrate potential for effectiveness in scholarly productivity as well as in teaching within a highly diverse environment.
  • Excellent communication skills along with a high level of initiative and prudent judgment
  • Must meet all compliance requirements as specified in the Faculty Handbook


Additional Information


In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $51,962.03 and $93,918.96. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
