The Assistant Logistics Manager (ALM) position is a basecamp leadership role that supports the Logistics Manager (LM) and Program Director (PD). The ALM is responsible for assisting the LM in managing the daily logistical needs of the basecamp and crews in the field. This includes warehouse duties; upkeep and organization, gear packing and gear maintenance. Food hut duties; upkeep and organization, food packing. Basecamp duties; vehicle upkeep, town runs, and crew transportation. The long-term vision of the ALM role is to progress into the LM role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*

  • Assist the base leadership team in maintaining a positive and professional work environment and living community at basecamp.
  • Assist in enforcing and upholding safety policies, procedures, and practices for the base’s warehouse, food hut, and other logistics workspaces and duties.
  • In conjunction with the program director and NCOBS Director of Safety, monitor and address safety issues related to logistics staff physical workspaces.
  • Represent the LM in their absence.
  • Work with LM to ensure logistical needs for courses and basecamp are met.
  • Assist in the daily functions of the warehouse and food room.
  • Assist in the training and supervising of logistics coordinators, including training staff on the risk management and safety practices associated with the base's warehouse, food hut, and all routine logistics duties.
  • Assist in maintaining the upkeep of vehicles.
  • Assist in monitoring, maintaining, and repairing all gear.
  • Be a part of the logistics “on-call” rotation.
  • Assist the LM with evaluations for logistics coordinators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:*

  • Has held a valid driver's license for at least 5 years and can pass a Motor Vehicle Report inspection.
  • Full vaccination against Covid-19.
  • At least one season as an Outward Bound logistics coordinator preferred.
  • Personal and professional values consistent with the NCOBS mission, values, and principles.
  • Must be comfortable with driving a 15 passenger van with a box trailer after appropriate training.
  • Able to participate in all base activities. Able to lift 75 pounds.
  • Current WFA and CPR at a minimum. WFR and CPR preferred.
  • Able to give and receive timely, effective oral and written feedback.
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong personal initiative, motivation, and resourcefulness.
  • Strong presentation, writing and computer skills.
  • Cooperative attitude and ability to be flexible.

Compensation and Benefits:*

  • Works 22 days per month, paid at a per diem rate of $120/day
  • Training days paid at $75/day
  • Option for health benefits.
  • Housing provided (rustic, shared cabin-style living)
  • Meals provided. Lunch and dinner are prepared by the Kitchen Manager, breakfast foods are made available for preparation.
