The Seasonal Assistant Health & Safety Manager serves as the Health and Safety Manager in his absence. Oversees the day-to-day safety of the Summit Bechtel Reserve Operations, Programs, Base Camps, including SOC, Dining Hall, Transportation, and Staff Camp Safety Operations. Reports directly to the Health and Safety Manager. Will serve as the SBR Safety Administrator and be responsible for the well-being of all participants, visitors, and staff at The Summit Center in the absence of the Health and Safety Manager.

Will be held to the highest standard and be expected to set the example for all staff and participants in uniformity, behavior, and work ethic.

Reports to: SBR Health & Safety Manager

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Health and Safety Manager during times of his absence
  • Coordinates safety programs SBR Operational Areas
  • Identify and Mitigate any/all hazardous conditions with participants, staff, roadways and any other SBR assets.
  • Attend all Coordination Meetings as necessary to execute the Mission
  • Provide daily oversite and coordination between all OPS Managers
  • Other duties that may be assigned by senior leadership.

Qualifications & Training:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age (at least 25 is preferred) by the start of employment
  • Must be able to communicate effectively on two-way radio (verbal), in written form (email, IM and Word) and in person with staff, peers and guests/customers
  • Must be able to obtain a SBR driving permit by submitting driving record and successfully completing in-house safe driving course
  • Must have significant camp and Scouting experience, excellent management skills and be very organized.
  • Must be willing to work closely with the Health and Safety Manager electronically before the season to prepare.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and handle materials up to 70 lbs
  • Must be able to work shift work
  • Must meet the Summit Bechtel Reserve's high adventure height/weight requirements as laid out in the Summit BSA Health & Medical Record

Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform

  • SBR blue polo or BSA Field Uniform (Scouts BSA, Venturing, or Sea Scout)
  • Shorts/Pants should be of the appropriate length/size/appropriateness for a Scouting setting.
  • Shoes should be closed-toe, neat/clean and show the appearance of being new or slightly worn. No wild colors.

Housing: 10x12' Platform Tent; Foxtrot Base Camp Staff Area
