The Assistant Fire Marshal earns a competitive hourly salary of $47.84, based on qualifications. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS THE ASSISTANT FIRE MARSHAL

Job Summary

The purpose of this job within the organization is to assist the Fire Marshal with overseeing that all fire and life safety codes are enforced and in place to protect the lives and property of the citizens that live, work, play, and visit the City of Pearland. This position is also responsible for providing Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) training to all TCOLE certified employees.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential Functions

• Attends meetings and consultations with citizens, contractors, business owners, City staff, and elected officials to discuss fire and life safety issues throughout the City to ensure Pearland is a safe City to live, work, and play in.
• Assist with ensuring fire and life safety inspections and plan reviews are being carried out by the staff of the Fire Marshal's Office. Also performs these functions if necessary.
• Ensures fire investigations are carried out to determine cause and origin and to see that the cause does not happen again whether the cause is accidental or incendiary.
  
• Ensures all reports for inspections and investigation are completed and documented thoroughly and properly.
  
• Assists outreach with public relation and public education events through school visits, career days, community helpers' day, and speaking to older members of the community on fire safety.
• Trains all TCOLE certified employees.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires an associate degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college.
  
• Requires two years fire or closely related experience.
