Summary

Reporting to the Director of Campus Ministry, the Assistant Director works to develop and deliver programs including retreats and liturgy, helps train and advise Graduate Assistants, student leaders, and student workers, runs Campus Ministry office management, and assists the Executive Director of Mission and Heritage as requested.

The AD will provide pastoral leadership within the university community, helping foster spiritual growth through faith formation, service outreach, and developing student leaders with a focus on holistic student development and fostering spaces where student identities are affirmed and supported. The AD must be competent in working with people of many cultures, ethnicities, religious traditions, and other diverse groups. They must possess an understanding of Catholic tradition and have the ability to create/execute programs, serving as a strong ministerial leader. Working in this setting can require evening and weekend hours, and the AD must be relationship focused, as personal relationship is the foundation of ministry.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Administration and Supervision

  • Report directly to the Director of Campus Ministry.
  • Assist in the department's planning.
  • Participate in meetings, supporting the vision and contributing to the achievement of strategic plans.
  • Help direct activities of the Office for Campus Ministry.
  • Work collaboratively with, and help supervise, two Graduate Assistants to develop and ensure that the following are run well and effectively: student retreat opportunities, faith sharing groups, programming and service experiences.
  • Help Director to recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate two Graduate Assistant Ministers as needed.
  • Help Director recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Peer Ministers and student workers as needed.
  • Assist with Campus Ministry budget management.
  • Represent Campus Ministry with relevant Student Life issues and activities and on university committees as invited or requested.
  • Fully integrate with Mission and Heritage and Student Life collaborative efforts.
  • Participate in other duties as assigned.
  • Liturgy and Prayer
  • Assist in supervision of the Sunday night student liturgy, weekday liturgies, and coordinate with the Liturgical Peer Minister, Catholic Theological Intern (as available), and Graduate Assistants.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of major University liturgical celebrations in collaboration with the Director of Campus Ministry and Executive Director of Mission and Heritage.
  • Provide presence and active engagement in the liturgical life of the University community.
  • Foster the spiritual and religious life of all members of the University community, primarily students.
  • Lead prayer as needed and requested by the Director of Campus Ministry.
  • Retreat Program
  • Collaborate with the Director of Campus Ministry to plan the annual Busy Persons' Retreat, fall and spring Peer Minister retreat
  • Direct Graduate Assistant Minister in facilitation of Quest Retreat each semester.
  • Direct Graduate Assistant Minister in facilitation of Growth Retreat each semester.
  • Direct Graduate Assistant Minister in facilitation of Awakenings Retreat each semester.
  • Work with the ministry team to direct additional retreats (for example: nature, senior, Twilight, and silent retreats).
  • Service Outreach
  • Collaborate and direct Spring Break Service Trips, assisting SBST Peer Ministers:
  • Sign up and reserve spots at spring break service sites

  • Implement and coordinate regular service opportunities with ministry team and/or Service Committee/Service Club.
  • Collaborate and co-direct the Mercy International Service Trip to Belize each year as needed: 1. Application Process 2. Budgets 3. Formation experiences for student participants 4. Trip logistics 5. Staffing Student Peer Minister Leadership Program and Development
  • Participate in monthly Student Peer Ministry Training and Formation Program for all Peer Ministers (may be in collaboration with other X-Factor student leaders).
  • Help facilitate spring application and selection process (part of unified student leadership application coordinated as a division of Student Life). Pastoral Care
  • Provide pastoral care to members of the university community.
  • Ensure the availability of Bible Study groups and Prayer Groups as the community requests.
  • Assist in providing field education opportunity and supervision for graduate ministry interns from Catholic Theological Union and provide assessment and feedback.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, or religious studies, or equivalent experience in the field.

Knowledge and commitment to Catholic Church teachings related to Campus Ministry.

Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Saint Xavier University

Knowledge and commitment of the Sisters of Mercy charism and traditions.

Experience in working with students of diverse cultural, ethnic, religious, socio-economic, and other backgrounds.

Dedication to interfaith work.

Highly collaborative and empowering work style.

Experience in budget management.

Experience of working in young adult or college campus ministry preferred.

Experience supervising professional staff preferred.

Competency in Microsoft Office software
