Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Job at Austin Peay State University
The Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Cross County and Track & Field Coach in all areas of running a successful Division 1 Cross Country and Track & Field program that competes in the ASUN Conference. This position will primarily work with the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field program, specializing in 800-meter thru the 10,000-meter events. Primary duties include sport specific training, effectively recruiting student athletes, and maintaining a professional image while representing the University in the community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities for the Assistant Track & Field and Cross Country Coach include, but are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities
- Coach, teach, and mentor student-athletes in cross country and the distance events in track and field. Organization and coordination of daily practice plans.
- Maintain the integrity of the athletic program and Austin Peay.
- Assist the coaching staff in all day-to-day operations of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field
- Identification of potential student-athletes, recruitment of qualified student-athletes.
- Assist with Inventory management of uniforms and equipment.
- Provides student athletes the opportunity for a positive experience and climate in which to achieve their academic, athletic, and personal goals.
- Work effectively with students, student-athletes, administrators, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, officials, and coaching peers.
- Meet management hosting Track & Cross Country meets
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Ability to recruit scholarship and non-scholarship athletes
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I, and ASUN Conference rules and regulations
- Previous coaching and recruiting experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful and proven experience in recruiting.
- Have strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept
- A sound knowledge of intercollegiate track and cross country.
- A background in coaching track and field on the collegiate level.
- Have a sound understanding of the requirements of the NCAA and the mission of Austin Peay Athletics.
- Strong communication skills and be able to work effectively with student-athletes, faculty, staff and alumni.
