TITLE: Special Education Transportation Aide
CERTIFICATED/CLASSIFIED: Classified
REPORTS TO: Transportation Coordinator/Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum
DESCRIPTION (DEFINITION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS):
Under supervision, assist with transportation needs of children; to perform a variety of functions related to the special needs of children being transported; to do other related work as required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (EXAMPLE OF DUTIES):
- Assist drivers loading and unloading students.
- Supervise students while riding the bus
- Attend to any special needs to may occur on the vehicle including behavior, diapering, and re-clothing students.
- Work with parents, teachers, Special Education/Health Aides and drivers to meet the needs of the students and their IEP's if applicable.
- Administers first aid and CPR as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (NIINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
Knowledge of:
- Basic concepts of children with special needs
- Behavior management strategies
- Appropriate communication skills
Ability to:
- Incorporated within one or more of the previously mention performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements;
- Mobility sufficient to move about the classroom or designated study areas to assist individual students.
- Ability to see and hear for purposes of student assistance.
- Ability to speak so others will be able to clearly understand routine instructions and emergency directions.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Training and Experience:
- One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children.
- Possession of current first aid and CPR certification

BARGAINING UNIT: Classified SALARY SCHEDULE: H March 2017
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.59 - $21.11 per hour
